I found this little bit of info on the Canadian crohn's & colitis website under the "ask the doctor" section, "There is sufficient evidence suggesting that 5-ASA (Mesalamine) is of no benefit in the therapy of Crohn’s disease."

Is this true? and should I be looking for another med to treat CD.

I can say that mine as for sure helped me. I think it depends on the severity of ones disease.

It works well for me too. It is a very mild medicine and helps to keep the inflammation down for me. I once thought it wasn't working and quit taking it for a bit, BIG MISTAKE, I got sick again. Went back on it and I am doing well again.

Hi! i am from Winnipeg in Canada and i have been on pentasa for many years and have just been told by my specialist that pentasa is useless now compared to alot of the new drugs out there. it only controls inflammation to a certain point but does not stop the disease from attacking the body. so, maybe speak to your doctor on the pentasa because maybe all you have is minor inflammation that he feels the pentasa is all you need. i am still on it along with dicetel, losec and have just started imuran which i haven't done so well on so far. good luck and hopefully my info may have helped you!!
