Heating pad for fistula/fissures?

Has anyone tried this before?  The only relief I am getting from my fissures right now is in a hot tub of water.  I figured the heating pad might do something for me while I am at work, especially since the pain after a BM is lasting 2-4 hours!

I have not used a heating pad for a fissure but I do use one on my belly for a bit before I fall asleep. It goes right over my fistula. If an abscess of anykind is evident heal also helps to expell pus from the body (hence putting a hot washcloth on a pimple to make it form a head). I think it just helps calm my intestines after a BM and eating enough to relax me to fall asleep

OMG... this is soooo much better! I made my wonderful Hubby go and get one for me at Walgreens and I feel soo much better. The pain is not completely gone but it feels much better! I need one now that can plug into my car! LOL

What about those chemical handwarmer things?  You can get them in camping supply stores.  The one I have (which I actually got at a sex toy party lol) has a little disc that you "snap" to activate.  It forms crystals and heats up.  When you're done with it you boil it and let it cool, and then it's ready to use again.  Something like that would be portable- just keep one in your bag, and you could use it in the car, at work, or where ever.

How about "Cornbags". I use these everynight on my stomach. You just pop them in the microwave and heat them up to the temp you like. Just sit on it the car. I buy mine from Iowa Corn Baby online.

When I was too weak to sit in the tub for fear of not being able to get back out I would take a femanine pad(my fistula was recto/vag) and wet it down with a little water so that it was wet but not dripping and then sit on a covered heating pad. I got the moist heat of a sitz bath and could lay down in bed or chair and it worked great!!

Don't they have something like Oragel for the behind? Something that will numb it? If not, I should invent it. A nice soft wipe with a numbing solution on it.

Heating pads are wonderful! I usually use one of my tummy, especially after an attack of D. I never thought to use it on my fissue/fistula when I had them, but I can imagine it would help!

In the car.....I use my heated car seats when I need some relief down there! :)

Also, you can put rice in a sock, tie it off, and throw in the microwave for a minute....

when im having a flare up ( i have parianal crohns with multiple fistulas and history of abcsesses) i LIVE in the bath. its where i make all my calls for the day and pretty much do everything. i position my tv so that i can watch from in there.
everyone always knows that im in the bath if they're getting a phone call from me.
i have a corn pad that i heat up in the micro which helps with stomach cramps.
having a flare up right now, spent a night in the hospital, my GI wants to drain the tiny abcsess but the surgeon doesnt want to. im just waiting for a decision because i want to get back onto remicade which saved me last time.
such a pain in the ass.
