I cannot believe this and don't understand how someone could do this! Weird! I guess anything can happen these days...........

I read about this last week.  What's really bad is according to someone who works at the clinic, it's not the first time they've done this to someone.  Might be time to start checking the machines before going home, folks.

I think I would be scarde if I was stuck and I needed to smoke!!!

Personally, a lawsuit wouldn't have even occurred to me. I don't think such an event would be all that traumatic. On the other hand, crochety ole broad that I am, I sure as heck would be madder than a wet cat and would be filing complaints w/every medical association and licensing department that clinic would have ties to!!!! Plus a Letter to the Editor of the local newspaper.

If you re-read that article it had NOT happened at that particular clinic before but it has happened at other clinics.

I think she probably fell asleep and then woke up to the darkness and no sense of time and the resulting confusion. Those blankets aren't all that heavy and its not THAT difficult to crawl out of a CT scanner. Heck, even an MRI "tube" wouldn't be that difficult to inch your way out of.

WHY on earth some "genius" would even consider doing gallbladder surgery via the vagina boggles my mind! The vagina is a LONG way from the gallbladder. I thought the trend was to be towards less invasive surgery!!!

Unfortunately, suing might be the only way to make sure they don't do it again. Hurt them in the pocketbook, and they might take more care with patients.

The problem is not lawsuits, but the need for them, as they seem to be the only effective means both to punish and prevent bad behavior.

fyi- the article says nothing about a suit. We started that debate here. And as far as the gall bladder debate, the idea of having surgery in general vaginally does seem a lot less invasive. However, it would be a nightmare if it didn't heal properly.

You can hurt those clinics PLENTY w/complaints to their accrediting associations, state licensing bureau and local medical societies. Its not just the fines, the number of complaints and fines levied very much affect their next accrediting and licensing approval, as well as physicians opting to direct their patients elsewhere for imaging.

Only a male surgeon would have conceived of surgically removing the gall bladder thru the vagina, IMO.
