B 12 Injections

Hello;

I have been giving myself B12 shots, and stopped using the oral liquid.

I have some questions.

The first couple were difficult; but I am getting the hang of it.
The hardest part is getting through the skin, then the needle goes into the muscle with ease.(leg)

My g.i. gave me a script for a 1000ml vial(10 shots) with 3 refills.
My pharmacist suggested the needles. 3ml 25G 1 1/2.
I was shocked at the price, the 1000ml vial cost me 15$, which is what ONE shot done at the pharmacy cost...

I have been doing them once a week.

It seems to help things tremondously.

I suspect some of it is just a placebo affect, but is there any harm with once a week?

The vial I have has a rubber top on it.
Should I be cleaning the top off before each use with alcohol?
I use a new sterile unopened in the package needle each time.

Also, I put the plastic cap on the used needle and toss it in the trash, should I be disposing of them in another way?

personally for my shots I have never seen the docs clean the top of the bottle, but I am sure they don't touch it either since they have gloves on and when they pierce it the fill the needle, then change needle ends again right after to another unused one. but like said, they clean the area of the skin clean of course, I think cleaning it is no problem, probably a good safety practice anyways.
for needle ends, you should always be putting them in a seperate non trash container, in order to protect the garbage men, my dad who uses lots has a special sharps container he got ahold of to keep them and get them disposed of. Even at the hotel I work at, if we find sharps, we move them to a biohazard bin, not normal trash, so no one will get harmed in any way.
Some of us get b12 once a week. for me, its only once a month, which is more the normal, but when you drop too low, once a week is used, you might want to have your b12 checked after awhile to see what would be more appropriate to keep using.
