Hello!  I just moved to RI and need a new dr. and hospital.  What is the best hospital in RI (1) in general and (2) for Gastroenterology?  I was diagnosed with colitis years ago and last year ended up in the hospital with an official diagnosis of Crohn's colitis.  Since I moved recently I have been having symptoms of an impending flare up and need to pick a new dr and hospital soon.  Please help, any suggestions are appreciated, or links to where I can find this information!

You could try the CCFA.org web site for GI doctors. I'm in MA, but I really don't know much about the RI hospitals. Are you close to Providence, there are some excellent hospitals there. Also, depending on where you are, you might be able to go across the border to a MA hospital. I live almost into NH, but go into Boston a couple of times a year just to check in with a top doctor there, I also see a local GI. You might be able to set something up like that.

I am in RI and I see Dr samir shah at gastroenterology Associates he is a CD specialilst 274-4800 he works for miriam hospital and memorial hospital also my colorectal surgeon is Dr mathew Vrees at RI colorectal that number is 725-4888 he works for those hospitals too. I found that Memorial had better care especially if you give them a diet including what you cannot tolerate. Miriam kept giving me food I was allergic too and stuff I couldnt tolerate. Memorial is 111 brewster St pawtucket RI 02860. I work there in family care. need more info email me

there are other Drs in both groups but make sure in teh GI assoc you get Shah since he is the CD specialist in the practice...I was with antoehr practice before and felt they were not aggressive enough with my Tx. Shah has 2 offices one in pawtucket one in providence and the surgeons office is in pawtucket. All of the surgeons in that office are good...schecter is supposedly the best but with him, be prepeared to wait anywhere from ur appt time to 2.5 hrs after ur appt time to actually see him. I have had all of the surgeons in that office at one time or another thru my surgeries this yr whether it be that the others were on call when my Dr was away and in 1 case my doc had one of the other docs assist him in my reversal surgery rather than a resident esp since I have had so many complications.
