I had pneumonia 2 times while on remicade...that put off the treatments for a long while. It doesnt help that my asthma is mostly induced from colds causing me bronchitis most times. I did find that placing neosporin in my nasal pasages helped me avoid many colds that others had and I never got when I was at my last job. I was the only immunosupressed person there and I was there more days than most of the others. I dont know if it just helped to keep my sinuses moist or if the antibiotic products in it killed the bacteria I breathed in
Just a tip that has helped me...ps...I have had the pneumonia shot a cpl times and most say 1 in a lifetime should be good forever...not true in my case

I had pneumonia earlier this year...before I started taking Remicaide. My doc thought it developed due to my immune system being weakened by taking steroids for an extended period of time. But I completely agree with the point raised: that one should get checked out right away if you have a cold and take Remicade. I currently have a bad cold, and saw the doc last week because I was concerned that maybe something else was brewing. He said it was just a cold and put me on antibiotics. Blood work was done also to rule anything else out.

Hi Croony Well my symnptoms were first gerd at night ,then sore throat.,Then loads of coughing and runny nose. I had a pers. for the first week and then at about
week 2 I started coughing up orange stuff. So had X-Ray done and got another pers.. I am not doing too bad eating good today I also was lazy and D and more D . I guess there is a small amount of infection in each lung. I am a little depressed.I get that way when pnuemonia is in the picture. I am not in bed alot though and managed to wash the kitchen floor and clean up some. Maybe I"ll be better in no time if not you IBDer"s will be getting bored with me. Ha Ha The funny thing is my temp is 36.3 which is about
my norm. By the way was wondering if others have a normal low temp. all the time. Dragonfly thanks for the tip and how is your little belly doing? lol gail

You betcha I'm listening! I actually started taking some mucinex this weekend to help clear my lungs. Cough isn't too bad & still productive, but this is the second week for me. Also, I'm done with the antibiotics for the teeth so I'm keepin' a close eye out. I'm glad you went to the doctor! You do however need REST...what the heck are you doing scrubbing floors! Those floors I'm sure are NOT worth dying for! And we never could get bored with you anyway....you have too good a sense of humor and we ALL need that! Had a stressful day at work today so I'm gonna go sleep well tonight...you do the same! -Gayle

Hi Gail, and Gayle and everyone.
Just had pneumonia 3 weeks ago. I had a runny nose for 2 days, then the next day woke up and couldn't breathe, had chest pain . I tend to get flare ups in my esophagus when I get a sinus cold and last time ended up in hospital for a long time trying to clear that up so I didn't wait another minute. Went to the doctor that same morning, had xrays the same day and had pneumonia by night time. 3 weeks of antibiotics and I am much better but now have diarhea like crazy.
This pneumonia hit me so fast it was scary. no warning ...just bam! I guess when our immune systems are so compromised everything and anything will take a go at us if it can.
Hope you are both feeling better really soon.
And for the rest of this healing well forum.....don't waste any time wondering if you should see your doctor....get yourselves checked quickly. These viruses and bacteria are no longer laughing matters...they are stronger and harder to get rid of than ever.
Take care everyone,
Mary

This is why I'm absolutely getting my flu shot this year. Fortunately, I just had the virus that is going around ( worried it was West Nile a bit, but not the same symptoms). I got over it, but I've had so many run ins with bronchitis in the past, it was another shot across the bow.

Ditto Matthew, had my flu shot & pneumonia shot the 1st week of Oct. Love all the bugs that walk in the pharmacy door! If I didn't have such a good boss/schedule and job I'd definetly find a new line of work! Hope I didn't offend you in any way in the other post...NO ONE deserves that kind of treatment ...was just trying to help.
Gail- Slept crappy (pun intended again) last night, lots of stress at work this week already that resulted in what I hope is just a mini-flare of the D. Chest feels better today with less coughing. Glad your Dr. didn't hear a cackle....that's my department, remember!
Marie-I'm with you, don't wait! Was your strain viral or bacterial? I've had both before and the viral scarred the beejeebies out of me. Took sooooo long to clear up!

Gayle,
It was bacterial this time, which is why I think it cleared up in only 3 weeks. The last pneumonia I had was viral ....and boy I didn't think I would make it. Add to it a severe CD flare in the esophagus and TI. My GI said I was 2 days away from kidney failure when I finally made it to the right hospital. I kept going to our local smaller hospital, and they kept sending me home, saying you have the flu, drink more fluids. After about
3 weeks and many trips to that same ER my friend decided to take me into the city. Boy they had me admitted in minutes. It took months for me to get better, and longer still before I felt like myself again.
Gayle, I hope you start sleeping better....does immodium or Lomotil work for you...even if you just took it for one or two nights....a tired old body doesn't have the strength to make itself better. Be nice if you could take some time off and just rest.
Bonne Chance!
Love and prayers always
Mary
