Anyone care to share experiences w/ their pregnancy & crohn's? 

 I am 26 weeks pg, diagnosed with Crohn's in 2002 after emergency bowel surgery & resection, pretty much in remission since then with a few small flare ups.  It all started in 2001 right after I had my first child, I suspect it will all flare up after this child as well...

Sometimes it is a little slow here on the weekends. We have had lots of gals have babies and they are a wealth of info. Hopefully one of them will be along soon.

BTW, welcome to Healing Well! I'm really glad that you found us ~~

Yes, many of us here have had babies with crohns, with/without flares. from I can tell, all our babies were just fine.
Welcome to healing well by the way....this is a great place and a great bunch of people. They sure have gotten me through some difficult days.
I was fine during my first pregnancy as far as the crohns disease is concerned., but I had a major flare during my second pregnancy . My girls are 14 months apaprt. ...and both healthy. The CD started flaring during my last trimester with miss #2 and continued to flare well after she was born. I lost 15 pounds in my last month carying her,and was worried sick that she wouldn't be ok. ...but she was born at a whopping 8 lbs.
Congratulations on this new baby. How far apart will your chidren be.? Keep us posted ok....we love baby stories and can hardly wait to welcome this new child .
Hope you are not feeling too badly, keeping healthy...try to remain in the moment and not worry too much about a flare after the baby comes...it may not happen and if it does you will get through it.

My crohns went on hiatus during my pregnancy. I was able to things I could never eat before, like large salads, etc. I felt wonderful. But my crohns came back with a vengeance 4 months or so after the baby was born.

hi crystal, welcome

   i was pregnant with my 1st child and they found an abnormal bacteria in my body wich at the time couldn't test until  after i had my son.i developed the crohn's while preganant with him i was very sick right after he was born. was in the hospital for a few weeks.i had my second child 6 years later she is now 20 months my son is 7 they are fine and healthy.i was on prednisone while pregnant with my daughter (my 2nd child) i was sooooo nervous but she is ok.i was fine during my pregnancy but right after i was sick again,now i am on humira and i love it it has been working for me.best of luck to you

I had my second son 8 months ago they are 13 mnths apart, after I had him I got kidney stones first then the disease flared up horribly...still trying to gain remission Good luck with your new addition they are precious!!

My pg was amazing. No problems in my pg. I wasn't until I was under stress this summer that my bowels decided to rear it ugly head. Nursing helped keep my hormones undercontrol - I had to wean her last month (she turned 1) and now I am retrying to start nursing if my milk supply deceides to come back.It has been 3 weeks since my bowel resection due to complete blockage that almost killed me. I feel great now. I hoping this continues for a life time.

You had a bowel resection as well? How has it been?

I was diagnosed 17 year ago with cd. When I wanted to have my second child, I visited my gastroenterologist since i had heard only horror stories about crohn's and pregnancy. He told me that if I was feeling well before I became pregnant, chances my pregnancy would be uneventful. But if I was experiencing a flare before, I could be sick for the whole pregnancy. I had a great pregnancy, but had to stop the sulfasalazine since it was making me so nauseous, I couldn't eat and started to lose weight. I still felt fine and Sarah was born at almost 8 pounds. Not bad! She'll be 13 next month and is very healthy.

I've had Crohn's since 14. I got pregnant at 24 and had a horrible first trimester. I was flaring pretty much through the entire pregnancy. I was on Imuran at the time - despite a little worry from my ob/gyn. My GI said the risk of me getting off of the meds and having more complications while pregnant was much higher than the risk of staying on them. I only gained about 15 pounds and struggled with being able to eat the entire time.

I had a beautiful, healthy baby girl. She's very smart for her age and hasn't had any more illnesses than most kids.

I flared right after having her. It cleared up on it's own once I stopped breastfeeding. I'm very scared of trying for #2, but every pregnancy is different. I'm hoping that next time around, I'll be able to pig out a lot and be a real pregnant woman!

I had my gorgeous healthy son 15 months ago and was fine before my pregnancy and was great during it. I suffered severe stress all the way through it though and pretty much up till now and now I'm having a flare up with it again which I put down more to the stress than having a baby as it was a while ago (though seems like yesterday haha)
