Ok so heres the deal.  I take 100mg 6mp and had my last remicade 2 weeks ago.  My gastro told me it was ok for me to get the flu mist and therefor also ok to be near my kids who will be getting it too.  Now the pediatricians say its not ok for me to get it since im immune suppressed and its a "live virus."  Whats the truth here????  I hear its live and then i hear its not.  I refuse to get the shot cuz im a baby and have enough needles between remicade and bloodwork all the time!!  What would you do?

I've always heard that the flu mist was a live virus and if you're immune compromised (as you are) you should get the shot which is a killed virus.

Judy is 100% right. The flu mist is a live virus and the shot isn't. I get the shot every year. Good Luck!

Flu mist is live virus. I was told my son, who has asthma, could not get the flu mist because it was live. The virus in the shot is definitely killed. I just got my shot last week.

Hi I would get the flu shot not the flu mist. My doctor said no to the flu mist.

All I can say is ditto to what all the others have said. I jsut got my flu shot last week.

Ditto...flu mist is live virus, but vaccine is not.

Im so bummed!  How can doc not know this first of all?  But really, i am afraid of needles!  Guess i need to suck it up huh?  Not worth risking getting something from the live virus or getting the real flu from having no vaccine.  Now, what about being around my kids after they have the flu mist?  Thanks for the info guys.

Your kids "can" shed some of the live virus if they get the nasal mist. I would talk to another doctor, maybe the pediatrician, they will know what to do. Can your kids get the shot? It really wasn't bad at all, I just had mine done 2 weeks ago.
