My husband and I truly appreciate everything our Veterans have done, are doing and have sacrificed for us. Considering visiting a Veterans Hospital if you want to share your respect of our heroes. It is an inspiring event to spend time with these men and women.

Just a historical footnote. Veterans Day used to be called Armistice Day, and there is a reason why it is celebrated on November 11 (World War I officially ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month):

Armistice Day is not exclusively an American holiday, and is actually still celebrated in a number of European countries.

and we get labor day off, but not veteran's day? lame.....
why does society put more priority towards celebrating a labor union holiday than towards having a holiday to honor our brave?
i say those writers in Hollywood should take the extra time off they have lately and write about
why veteran's day is so important!

Glad- I learned today we don't get the day off because the holiday was really on Sunday. Has to be the 11th day. Those that did get it off it is because their union contracts are written so if a holiday falls on Sunday then it is celebrated on Monday. However, I can't remember if we got the day off if it fell on a weekday...
And Lyn- thanks for the reminder. I sent a special email to my friends that are Iraq war vets.

Thank you to all our veterans who have and continue to protect us each and every day. What you and your families have endured for our freedom is never taken lightly and will never be forgotten! You and you alone have paid the ultimate price and forever deserve a place of honor!

NO problem Fitzy.........My great granpa lost his eye in WW1..........My granpa came home and his wife had left him he commited suicide 10 yrs after being home ...........Dad was in the Navy but barely remembers unless I pull out the pics of him all dressed in uniform ........
Recently read that approx 70% of our Canadadian Vets live below poverty line making them NEED to rely on food banks and Legions to get thru the month
How the Hades can anyone JUSTIFY this .........
This is so wrong ....IMHO
