Question for the ladies--recto-vaginal fistulas?

For those of you out there with recto-vaginal fistulas: can you tell me what your symptoms were. I'm trying to figure out what is going on with me lately and my next GI appointment isn't until Dec 20th.

I had multiple vaginal infections (thought they were yeast) with discharge, and eventually I felt air escaping through there. I had a doctor at the time that told me I'd know if I had one, well I didn't, had to have another doctor find it.

I even had a couple GYN's looking around in there and didn't have a clue what it was, took biopsies (which really hurt, lol) and told me it was probably herpes. I fired them when I fired my GI that told me "I'd know."

It was absolutely diagnosed using dye injected through my rectum, and I believe it was a CT scan they used to watch where the dye went.

I had pain, a lot of pain. This was before I became a more agressive patient and really pushed for answers. The doctors couldn't find anything and the pain eventually went away, maybe 6 months. But since I wasnt agressive I now have a permanent R/V fistula, which causes multiple infections over the course of each year. The pain is gone, but it is a very strange sensations to pass gass through your vagina.

Push for a DX and a treatment.

Gas coming out your vagina, drainage....

Thanks ladies. I'm not really having any symptoms other than a little bit of gas coming out. But I've had several abnormal pap tests over the last two years and have had to have colposcopies (like a pap but they use a magnified camera to look at the cervix) every 3 months to rule out cancerous cells. The colposcopies have always been normal but they can't explain the abnormal pap tests. I read a couple of articles where they said that a fistula could cause abnormal pap tests. I guess I'll have to talk to my doc about this. Great! Something new to worry about. Oh the joy never ends.........

I did forget to say that I had a few abnormal pap smears when I had my RV fistula. I eventually had a total hysterectomy, so not sure about long term.

When you had drainage, could you tell the difference between that and a yeast infection?

Not really. I do remember being sore down there, but I was also diagnosed with pelvic floor and perianal fistulas so that could have had something to do with it.
