Ever been accused of pain med seeking?

So I was recently in the hospital...twice for Crohn's disease flares. The first was for an obstruction and the second was abdominal pain, and then esophagitis/gastritis. So I was in the hospital for 11 days (2nd hospital stay) and unable to eat that whole time so they did TPN, and then an NG tube. Long story short the doc from the hospital wrote a follow up note to my General Practitioner telling her that I was stubborn and refusing to eat for no reason, and was just seeking narcotics. I was so mad when I heard this...and my doc was livid. I said that I wasn't just going for meds, and she said well you were somewhat, but because you have crohn's and were in a lot of pain, and what else are they going to do. The best is that she was like ok how is the pain management, and I said not very good so she wrote me a script for 90 percocet. At this point my new GI is considering surgery since I am on Prednisone, Entocort, Remicade and 6-MP and still with symptoms. Basically I am annoyed and upset that a doc would say I was just seeking narcotics, and the whole time she down played the pain I was in...it makes me so frusterated. Has anyone else dealt with an issue like this?

That's horrible they accused you of such, it's never happened to me but my family doc gave me percocets for pain but when I went to my GI he said don't take percocets as they will constipate me and end up making things worse (which yes it can do that but thats the least of my worries not being able to crap for a few days, lol)

I'm not a doc but why are you on entocort and prednisone, they're both steroid drugs, i'm surprised your not off the entocort as I see your on 6MP and Remicade which are way stronger than entocort. I'm just going by what my doc said to me, I was entocort and then pulled off it, and out on pred and imuran (now coming off pred as its bad in the long run) Anyways sorry to bring your question off topic.. but I can understand your frusterated how they treated you. If only they knew what it feels like.

Yeah I am on a lot of meds. I was put on Entocort in July for terminal ileum thickening. After my first hospital stay in september I was put on Prednisone and 6-MP, and my Remicade was increased to every 6 weeks. Then I went to the hospital again after about a month, and they gave me another remicade. I think I have been kept on the Entocort so that I can keep the prednisone below 30mg. At this point no meds are really working that great so surgery is pretty much my option, which I am all for. I just want to diseased part out so I can finish up the school year healthier.

I had one doctor, who upon meeting me and taking my personal and family history, phrased her question "So was your mother (also a CDer) a pain pill addict too?". I nearly flipped out. Needless to say, I will never be seeing that doctor again. I had just been transfered to a major city hospital from my local one and at the time, my Mom had been dead for 8 years. She knew nothing of my mother or me and had no right to make any assumptions. I had been going to a pain clinic for 2 years at that point to make sure that everything was been done properly and these type of things shouldn't come into play, but clearly, some GI doctors feel that we should just suffer in pain until they can find the right combo of meds to treat the condition. The problem with that line of thinking is that some of the time it takes months or years to find that combination and we've been left to suffer and our quality of life has suffered.

I reported her attitude and my complete shock at her treatment of me. Maybe if enough people complain it will get through to the GI doctors that they need to treat the entire patient not just the GI track.
