Does anyone on here have cystic fibrosis and also have children? I am wanting to have a baby using a serrogate mother and don't know where to start.

Just wanted to welcome you too Healingwell.
I can't help on this one I'm afraid. I know of 2 CF mothers with young children. One had IVF, the other conceived naturally-twice! I haven't come across anyone who's used a surragate.


 

Where in the world are you from, as this will help people in answering. Also why aren't you able to have children yourself? If you don't mind me asking. The reason I ask, is people with CF, with a FEV1 lung function score of 60%, are at  a very low risk of problems during pregnancy. A study my consultant did with a load of others across the UK, showed that above 60% lung function, chances of a normal pregnancy are very high. Also they found that in some mothers lung function actually improved after birth, as mothers had tried so hard to look after there lungs especially during pregnancy.

I am from the U.S. (illinois). My dr. say's it is too risky for me to have a natural birth due to my low FEV1, and adoption is not for me and my husband so a surrogate mother is my only option. Thanks for your help.

I would check with the adoption agencies as they may have info on how to find a surrogate Mother.  Also I am sure there are certain law firms that set up these surrogacy pregnancies.

Check with your OB/GYN physician.

I pray it all works out for you.

My lung function is in the 60's to 70's, and my husband and I decided it would be too risky to have babies. not because of the pregnancy, but because caring for a baby would wear me down, and I would get tired and probably get sick. I would have to stay at home and not be able to work so I could take care of a child and keep up with therapies and exercise. It's really hard to realize that I cannot have children in the future, and it's painful. We have talked about adopting in the future, and getting a child that is past the new born stage so it would be easier to manage things. How do you feel about taking care of a child and getting worn down and getting sick? I'm wondering if it's a problem others have or not. And I'm regreting my husband having a vasectomy.
