Hi Twiggy,
Glad you had an appointment at your Psychiatrist today. I too have been weeping a bit from stress..but it is mostly in the mornings. Sometimes it can be a great stress relief, and very healing. Unfortunately, they get a bad rap because some people can abuse them and then addiction can occur (which is why many Psychiatrists and Doctors are hesitant in prescribing them at times). There is no shame at all in asking for and taking Benzos..as long as it is therapeutic and you are taking the correct dosage, they can aid in your recovery. I suffered from anxiety..tried nutrition, exercise, self help books, cognitive behaviorial counseling, etc..to no avail. Sometimes anxiety and stress are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain much like depression. Stress, caffeine, bad diet, etc can deplete those chemicals. If the benzos are therapeutic and helping you, then it would be okay to take them long term I would think..as long is it is okay with you and your Doctor. I have been on mine now for six months...and am able to function..am still on the lowest dose (0.5mg). Klonopin is good, because it stays in your system longer than Ativan and Xanax from what my Psychiatrist told me. It has been a Godsend to me. I suffered too long (twenty years) without antidepressants or anti-anxiety meds, and now, I feel I deserve some sort of relief..it has been a long time coming..lol. I have been under a great deal of stress with being out of work, no health insurance, Dad's health failing and that he is living 2000 miles away from me, collection agencies (credit card) calling me every day..interviews, etc. I thank God for Benzos every day, or I would really be falling apart.
