As you all probably realize, I have been complaining about winter all season.  It has been a hard one where I live, cold temperatures, a ton of snow.  When it warms up, it usually rains.  And then the dreaded ice storms.

Well this morning I noticed that the sun was out.  When I looked at the snow, it sparkled like diamonds.  Who's to say, diamonds are to look at, they sparkle.  Well so does the snow.  It was so amazingly beautiful.  Shortly after that I could here a bird singing.  Maybe he is marvled with the appearance of the snow too.  This really warmed my heart and is making for such a better day for me.  I love nature and all of it's beauty, even when it is cold.  It is about 19 today, which isn't too bad, especially when the sun is out.  It feels so warm on your face and on your back.

I hope that this can cheer somebody up as it has me.

Thanks Karen,

We have a feeder that is on a timer and every morning I open the shade to the back yard and watch the pheasants eating their breakfast.............sometimes there will be 20-25 of them.  Hens and roosters.  They are so funny to watch.  They march in little rows.

Nature is beautiful if you stop to look. :-)

Wow Kitt,

That is so cool, I use to feed all kinds of wildlife, I had a flock of about 50 turkeys that would come in every morning. It was awesome. I had a family of foxes also. It made me think of them when you posted, they had 4 kits (babies). It was so cute to watch them, I even got to video tape them, I love to watch it.

Every Friday, I get picked up by medicar ambulance. Unlike travelling in a normal car, this is slower with windows all round. The driver always has the music on, and it's very countrysidey on the route.
I love just staring out onto the fields, watching the horses and sheep and cows grazing, see the birds take off and land. It is really beautiful and I end up arriving at the hospital quite chilled out and relaxed.

Nature is beautiful, you're right Kitt. Sometimes just finding the time too watch it can be so calming.

At home, we live in a maisonette. Basically a house, built ontop of shops. On nice days, I love going to the bedroom window, and just sitting there and watching. Kids are out to play, and eveyone is so busy, you can see right to the other side of town, all of the hills and fields. It's just nice sometimes, to sit and watch at the world go by in peace.

Thankyou for posting this thread Karen. It's just nice to remember sometimes, that small things, even just looking out on the world, things you mostly forget about when you're sad. They do exist and they are there, you just have too look and remember.

I love being out in nature, it is so healing. One of my doctors said that nature puts us in a meditative state. Kind of like being in the now. Which I am sure most of us struggle with. I find myself thinking of the future and thinking of the past, then I realize there is so much out there in the now that has to be offered. What is the saying, stop and smell the roses. This is getting to the time of year where everything will soon be fresh and new. We just got to get there. I am thankful for the ability to enjoy it. I might have my share of problems, but I am still able to focus on the simpe little miracles of life. I am so appreciative of that.

Oh I envy you all... about the winter since I live in ireland there isn t even a proper winter here. No snow just rain and short days. The rain and constant moisture is really getting to me. I live in a small town and since i had the back op i am at home for months now. It seems that spring will never come.
I wish at the moment I could be a place sunny and warm and just sit outside and feel the warmth of the sun on my skin. Mabye I ll get some spring flowers for myself tomorrow. Yes thats a good idea some colour in the winter gray...

Hi Sun,

Flowers is a wonderful thought, I have an orchid blooming right now. I like them because they stay in bloom for about a month. I also have hibiscus blooming. These are all inside because I live in the land of much snow and cold.

Now I want to get some flowers.
They have a lot of spring plants out too. Fragrant ones.

Hi Karen,
I thought I get some duffodils , they are nice and bright or tulips...I got an appointment with the Psychiatrist tomorrow after waiting for 5 weeks for the appointment...I am nervous. I just had the experiance with doctors here that they dont take the time and dont take you siriously..And I cant just go to see one that I chose but get assigned to one the health services choose for me scary he?

Sun, I live in England, so know what you mean about the weather. It truely is awful right now. Any little bit of sun though, is like a breath of fresh air. It was quite nice the day of the quake last week. The sun suddenly came out that day, and not a cloud in site.

Good luck with your appointment! Also, there are some good docs over here, my psychiatrist is excellant, it's just finding one that suits your needs.

Oh, and also. Here, Tesco are selling daffodils for a pound. I got my mum some for mother's day, and apparently they have just started too bloom.

went to tescos today didn t see any but mabye tomorrow.
See I dont really have a choice here with the docs. The waiting list for counsling is 4 years and I cant afford to go private. well lets see what happens tomorrow.

Jeez, four years-that's harsh! I actually did hear that on the news the other day, but thought it was just people making up figures again!

I guess I'm lucky in a way, in that I have that many problems, they don't want to leave anything untreted for too long, so all doctor's needed are handed to me.
Do you have to self-refer yourself?
Also there are charities here in England that offer councilling. Think it was MIND. I will find out a number tomorrow. I'm sure I saw an irish number on the card too.

I love daffodils and tulips, also hiacynths (sp), they are so fragrant. It is nice to hear about flowers right now, I use to have a floral shop. Also plant nursery.

Dear Karen,
I actually was thinking of changing jobs and become a florist. Is it stressfull? See because I need a low stress job.
I love the smell in floral shops and like to work with my hands and be creative.
Why did you give it up? Because of the illness?
Would love to hear more.

Hi Sun,

I had to give it up due to fibromyalgia.  Unfortunately. 

I really loved it, it is fun.  If you like to do creative things with your hands, I think that you would like it.  It can get stressful with a lot of orders, but if you really like it, it can just flow.  If you get somebody to train you properly, it can be a blast. 

My favorite part was when I delivered the arrangements and saw how happy people were to recieve the flowers.

You might want to check it out.  Maybe start before you leave your other job to make sure that you will like it.  I think you will.

I know most guys won't admit it but I love flowers, tulips, rose of sharon, lilies. I also love watching and hearing the birds sing, I have two bird feeders one attaches to the window so the birds come right up to the window to feed and the other hangs from a tree. There is a small table I sit at and watch as the sparrows and squarrles chase each other to get to the food. It makes me feel so good when the sun is out and I can open the windows to get some fresh air, I can't wait till spring to come it is my favorite season of all. Just rambling. sorry.

Ramble on, we love to hear happy stories. I use to feed all kinds of wildlife and it was so entertaining to watch them do their thing. I really miss that now. Just watching the animals go about their days and listening to the birds sing. Some would try to chase eachother off so I would put feed in many different places.

Flowers make me so happy! I have a large rose garden. I lost my husband two springs ago. After he passed away I went out and planted a rose garden. It really helped me mentally. I now have 70 rose plants. Can't wait for spring. Hugs to all, Dee

Hi Gillian,

Yes I use to have a floral/gift shop and a couple greenhouses, which i still have.  I love to go out in them in the spring and summer.  I use to sell potted plants.  But when I got fibromyalgia, I couldn't do it any more.  And lost the business.  Went is severe debt too.  But try not to think of that part.  I stll have my floral cooler, and occassionally do arrangements for special occasions,  but can't buy from wholesalers anymore.  So have to get the flowers at grocery stores and they aren't as good quality.

But I like to buy flowers for myself.
