Given lots of advice to others lately, need a little support myself now

I am in my usual state of lonliness as it is Labor Day weekend,the last big weekend of summer.  Everyone is away or out doing fun things and here I am alone again for the weekend.  I am staying in today since it is hot and humid here and that makes my asthma really bad.  So I am trying to distract myself but so far can only just stare at the TV.  I have tried reading but can't concentrate.  I almost wish there were no holidays as I am always left alone (except Thanksgiving and Xmas). My friends never think to include me in plans and if I do have plans it is because I make them way ahead of time.  I didn't this time because I have been really sick the past 6 weeks with asthma and bad allergies and have not been able to breathe so going out is too hard.  I hate being alone in the house. The silence is deafening.  I try to find people to call but everyone is gone or out.  I know I am just sitting here feeling sorry for myself but I don't know how much longer I can take the lonliness.  I need to be able to move to a new community but real estate is so bad in my area I could never sell my house and if I did it would be at a loss. Just needed to vent a little and hope someone will write back.  I need to know someone cares about me.

Hi Aurora60,

Just want you to know that there are people here who care and you are not alone. A lot of us go through the same thing you are going through. I don't have any cures or great words of wisdom, just wanted to say that I am here if you need to vent more. Hope this helps at least a little.

Hi there my friend...........turn on the radio and turn it up loud, dance to the music like a wild woman.  What, NO?  Ok well it seemed like a good idea but I have been a bit flaky this last month as you know and you have been there for me.  turn

I know lonliness and I don't like it either.  I will be home taking care of hubby and he is resting, sleeping, walking around the house or I am making him so meals.  No fire crackers going off here.

I remember the years when our children were little and we would take the 4 up to the cabin. Now they are all so busy they just call to tell me all their plans.  Alas they have outgrown us.

Please know my sweet lady, I am here and will be online whenever I am not doing nursing duty or taking care of the dog. shocked

Hi Aurora,

 

You are such a sweetheart.  You are always there for somebody else.  I am sorry that you feel so alone this weekend.  I have my nephew and his friends coming up.  They will most likely stop in to see me.  But they are young and want to party.  So I will also be home this weekend.  Unless I can get out and pick some berries or something.  To me these holiday weekends are just like any other day.  Just more traffic on the roads.  We are in a tourist area so the traffic is always bad on weekends like this.

 

So if you get bored, just come on here, there are plenty of us that will still be popping in now and then. 

 

I liked what Kitt said about turning up the radio and dancing around like a wild woman.  Maybe I can do that and lose some weight.LOL...

Thanks to all of you who replied to my post.  You have made me feel better.  I know you are all such wonderful, caring people.  I truly appreciate your concern.  And Kitt, I especially thank you for taking the time to answer me.  I know things are hard for you now and I will keep you in my prayers.

Thanks Erik, for your reply and the big hug.  I needed that.  You have really been a good friend and I appreciate that so much.  Sounds like you are really doing well right now and I am happy for you.  You always keep such a positive attitude and I think that is what gets us through the hard times.  I was having trouble yesterday, but today I got up and determined to keep my chin up and got out and kept busy and I have been fine.  It is thinking positive and getting out of the house and concentrating on others and that put me in a good frame of mind.  I know that the key to fighting the lonliness and depression is to get out and do things.  So not sure what I will do tomorrow but I know that if I leave the house I will feel better and it will be easier to come home.Thanks again Erik for all your caring and concern.

Hey Aurora,

What you up to?  I am taking care of hubby.  My daughter and granddaughters were here for a bit and brought over supper for tonight.

We ran out of DVDs to watch and I have no idea what is on regular TV. Guess I may find out.

Every year for many years now my hubby and I usually take the week of Labor Day for a vacation to go somewhere, up to the Northshore or a get away for the week as the resorts are less crowded starting on Tuesday.

With his surgery we will not be going this year. I guess that is just life and not much I can do but I will miss the get away.  rolleyes  

Hope you are finding things to keep you busy.........I am thinking of you.  turn

It sounds like you have taken control and are doing good today. I am so happy for you. Wish I could have gotten out of the house, but I have been in my pj's for three days. Got to get moving here.

Hi Kitt & Karen,  Well I did OK today.  I went to get my hair done, needed color and a cut. That is always a pick me up as the salon is busy and there are people to talk to.  And it's always fun to get a new do.  Then I went grocery shopping and dog food shopping.  Not too exciting but it kept me out of the house for a while and I know the people well in the pet store.  They always ask about my old Rusty, now 16 yrs, 7mos.  He seems on his last legs but he still just keeps hanging on.  And he doesn't seem unhappy and he eats so I guess I am going to give it more time.  My 29 yr old son got engaged yesterday.  His fiance is at UNC, Chapel Hill, and he flew in early yesterday.  He surprised her as she thought he was coming in at night. She was studying in the library and he just appeared.  They went outside and found a park bench and he got down on one knee and proposed and slipped the ring on her finger.  They called me later to say it is official.  I am truly happy for them - they have been through a lot but have worked things out and gotten counseling and now are on the right track.  They are so in love and I think it is the right time for marriage.  They won't have the wedding until Oct. 2009,  Gives me plenty of time to lose my weight! So I do have something really good to look forward to in the future.  I will keep reminding myself of the special event so I can get rid of this depression. I think I will be able to get through the rest of the weekend OK.  I am feeling more secure.  Just have to get my medical issues solved.  Will let everyone know what drs find out.  Hope I don't have to wait too long.  Take care and thanks for being my friend.

Hi Aurora,

Glad your feeling a little better and congrats on your son and future daughter-in-law!

Do you belong to a gym? I know that SOMETIMES exercise will help with my anxiety and depression. And when I lose weight that does pick up my spirits. Of course sticking to the routine of going to the gym is hard for me. It gets boring after awhile.

Anyways just know that your not alone and we all are thinking of you...Jodes

Hello Dear Aurora, Mother of the Groom. How romantic that engagement was.  It made me smile as young love is so sweet and new.  I wish them happiness always.

Your right you have a wedding to get ready for.  When My daughter got married, the first thing I did was go out and buy bridal magazines to look at wedding dresses.  I also looked at Mother of the bride dresses too.........and I worked on loosing weight.  I hit my goal but that was a long time ago now and with meds and garbage I am trying once again to loose weight.

I am glad to hear you enjoyed your salon visit.  You are the best so stay in the moment and celebrate this new engagement.

Hi Aurora,

I find it wonderful to read that you are doing a bit better :). I am not sure how you are planning to lose weight, but that wedding sounds like a superb reason to do some exercise (with all the benefits that comes with that, apart from the weight loss).

I am sorry to be so short now, I just moved out of the house, and the neighbours internet keeps falling out (ours will come tomorrow).

Hi Kitt & Erik,  Yes, another holiday weekend over and I made it through just fine.  I am proud of myself.  And now I have many other things to think about.  Erik,  I have already lost 40 lbs so I know I will lose the rest.  I power walk for exercise and follow a healthy diet.  Lots of fresh veggies and fruits, oatmeal, chicken and fish and only very seldom some lean red meat.  I was in a dieting group for the 40 lbs. but now know how to do it so am doing it on my own. And what better incentive than my son's wedding!  Thank you both for your support and will report my progress.

Anyway, I am so happy for you.  You got your hair done, you made it through the weekend, you have a wedding to look forward to.  All so many nice things going on.  Plus you are losing weight, that is one of my goals.  It sure is hard.  I am losing about a pound every two weeks, very slow. 

 

I am glad the holiday weekend is over.  Didn't do anything special.  My nephew was suppose to come up but didn't make it.  His friend did and stopped by today with his girlfriend.  It was so nice to see them.  They were on their way home.

 

We are going to pick blackberries tomorrow with my hb's brother.  That will be fun.  I look like I have been in a cat fight though when I get done.  The pickers on the vines get me.
