Anyone using Celexa?

Hi!

My story is long, but bottom line is that I am EXTREMELY depressed.  I am now sleeping better, but I am losing weight way too fast.  I have been on 40 mgs. of Celexa and Klonopin (not 40!) and they appear to be saving my life.  Along with this darn depression, my anxiety level is right up there.

Can anyone identify with this horrilbe situation?  I would love to hear from you.

Dear Linda,

I understand the depression, however I have never been on Celexa and I struggle with weight gain everyday.  Are you not eating or is the med causing your weight loss?

How long have you been on the Celexa as it should help with the anxiety too?

I am glad you are sleeping better. :-)

I was put on Celexa for anxiety and depression. It helps me sleep but I too have continued to lose weight. Most of that is because my appetite just isn't what it used to be.

I've been on Celexa 40mgs. for about 5 years now.... I HAVE gained weight but I think it may be more related to the fact that I have had to use a scooter and crutches to walk .... I used to walk everyday , quite briskly... and was always thin... but I had an "episode" where I couldn't walk for about 3 months... ( suspected MS) five years ago... I 've regained some of the strength in my legs and back but not all...plus the vertigo I get is quite unpredictable... many falls as a result of it... so I don't think the Celexa has caused me to gain weight, but rather the lack of exercise....
My oldest daughter is on 20mg of Celexa... she is not think either...but she gained most of her weight after they put her on Prozac... Poof! Now we are both struggling with our weight.
The Celexa takes a while to kick in... I don't think weight loss is listed as a side effect... it may be that your anxiety is not as controlled as it should be.... have you talked to your doctor about your weight loss.... there is always boost or ensure with extra calories that could help in maintaining a healthier weight.

Hi Mary,

I take effexor and have fibromyalgia. I thought that the meds caused my weight gain too until I realized that I hadn't been walking like I use to also. So sometimes it seems like many things could be the factor. I also am getting older in the meantime and my metabolism has changed. So sometimes it is hard to say, isn't it?

I take Celexa, Clonazepam, and Lithium. I've only been taking the Celexa for a couple of months and its a small dose. I was tired, had dry mouth and a loss of appetite for the first few weeks. I haven't had any weight loss or gain since taking it.  I seem to be doing ok with it.....I really think I need an increase, and will mention it to my Pdoc on Monday. I'm fairly stable, but still has a little more depression than I would like. I"m glad my Pdoc decided to try me with Celexa.....I've had alot worse over the past few years. LOL

I am also on Celexa and it has literally saved me from a hades I have not ever been to before
I do hope you will continue with it ans I am sure the klonopin helps
I take valium for a/p as well

BTW.....I did start to lose a bit of weight

but am slowly getting it back
