What have meds done for you?

How has your life changed once you went on the right meds for you?  Can you tell when your meds are no longer working or need an adjustment?  Is there any reason that you think people that are in recovery (NA,AA,etc.,) should NOT be on meds?

I've been on meds in the past, but I know I'll most likely be on them the rest of my life. As for your other questions I was ready for a rubber room before I got on the right meds.Yes I can tell the meds are right for me because I don't want to die or kill myself anymore. I know if I miss a dose so I know I can't go off them.

Medications have always helped me. There has been a remarkable change for the good with my depression since I have been on medication. But I think that still we always could use some counseling to go with it.

I think that even if you have been in NA or AA, you can still take medications for depression. There is generally a chemical imbalance going on and that needs to be corrected. Most antidepressants cannot be abused, there is just no rhyme or reason for it.

I think I can see where you are going with all these questions. I think that you are wondering about your boyfriend getting better. Well, it takes time and there are no pat answers to this because everybody is different. I hope that he gets well soon and that you two can work things out. But he needs to get better on his terms and you need to be patient. I am glad that you are getting information on depression though and we will help you as much as we can.

Hello and welcome,

I have had great success with one medication for years and yes you will know when you meds quit working if they have been working for you.

Now I am having issues with finding the right combo of meds and I will continue to work with my Doc on my medications as well as with a new therapist.

Hi

I have tried 5 different types of meds and have not found one yet that seems to help me so will be talking to my doctor soon re a new combo I hope you find one that works for you. I find that therapy works better for me and im due to start CBT soon.

Yes, my boyfriend (x) has been in a MDE and he ended our relationship 6 months ago. The reason that I am asking all these questions is because I would like to share the answers with some people and I thought the answers would be best from those that live it rather than from a book. For example, last summer when I was trying to tell my xdbf's mom that things were really bad for him and that I felt he needed to be on meds she said she didn't think he should be because of his past drug use and I have since researched that and found that not to be true. And when he ended our relationship with the "You're perfect, just not perfect for me. Maybe I was alone too long and better alone. Maybe I just need to be alone for a while. I don't even know who or what I am anymore. I don't even know how to have a sober relationship. I don't feel the same way about you as you do me, etc." his mom said "Not to be unkind dear, but maybe he doesn't have feelings for you." That was hurtful to hear. When I tried to tell about him sleeping all the time that was dismissed also as was the fact that he wouldn't even do anything with his life long friend. When I tried to talk to his sister about meds she said she didn't like meds because her husband had been on them and everytime he went off them he ended up depressed again so she thought he was dependant on them. So as far as encouragement to get help from them I doubt that there is much and I know he doesn't want my advice at the moment. Also, some of my co-workers think I'm crazy for waiting this out and trying to support him. That is why all the questions, I have been on the fallout board for a few months but I thought these kind of boards would be the best for telling it the way it is. I'm sorry that your going through a hard time with your ex boyfriend....I think it's great that your getting out there to try and learn about depression....But try not to invest too much of yourself emotionally in all this because if in the end it really doesn't work out you will be even more hurt.....This is something that he needs to work out on his own, sounds like he needs some space to get things together....And I hope that he can do that for himself.....Meds have worked well for me, I've only been on them for 2mo now but I'm getting there....
