Question for Cymbalta fans

Hi, all-

I'm a newbie here; this looks like a terrific group.

I've been on Cymbalta for a week; my doctor started me on 20 mg in the morning (concurrent with 150 mg of Wellbutrin, which I hope to work down from after Cymbalta takes hold). I'm also on Ritalin for ADD (not the H type). My doctor said she's seen good results for ADD/depression with adding Cymbalta.

I'd welcome hearing from other Cymbalta users about:
- Your starting dose and final dose
- When you take it -- a.m. or p.m. (or both)
- When you to started to feel initial positive results, and the full results
- How long it took to get through side effects
- Your success stories; how it's made a difference.

I'm hoping it will work well for me once it kicks in but I'm very tired and wondering if I should start taking it at night instead.

Thanks in advance for any advice and encouragement!

I do not take cymbalta, but I wanted to welcome you to the depression forum. I think that you will get some replys on this post as there are a few who take cymbalta, or have taken it.

I take a combination similar to your cocktail. But I take adderall instead of ritalin and effexor instead of welbutrin. Also I take xanax for anxiety. The psychiatrist added a mood stabilizer called abilify and it has truly helped me. So I can understand what it is like to have to have a cocmbo of medications to survive. It is a lot, but if that is what it takes, well??? We do what we have to do.

I hope that the cymbalta works well for you. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

I really appreciate your warm welcome, Karen. I tried Adderall years ago and may try it again since the Ritalin doesn't seem to last as long as it used to. Would you mind sharing your Adderall specs, and how long it lasts for you?

I'm glad you've found a combo that works well . How long did it take you to feel the benefits of the Abilify when it was added to your cocktail, btw? (A good friend of mine with ADD and Depression just started it -- I will tell her about this forum.) And is it like some of the other meds where you need to start slow and titrate up? I haven't read much about it yet.

I've never really felt like I've found the right antidepressant (did not do well on SSRIs; higher doses of Wellbutrin gave me tremors). I look forward to learning from you and others here, and will definitely post with updates on the Cymbalta. Thanks again!

Hello and welcome to the Depression Forum.  I am on a combo of meds and Cymbalta is one, I also take Buspar and Trazadone.

I have been on many of the meds and I am trying to wean off the SSNI, Cymbalta, as I have gained so much weight using this med.

I would like to try to go without an AD but we shall see.

I hope you find the medication is helpful for you.

I only take ten mg of abilify. I guess most people take about fourty mg. But I started out with five and noticed it pretty quickly. Within a couple of weeks anyway. I was taking risperdol before it, but the weight gain was too much for me.

The adderall I take is generic. I take 30 mg in the morning and then another 15 in the afternoon. I am thinking about asking for 30 in the afternoon as the 15 isn't doing as good. But if it wasn't for the adderall I wouldn't be getting out of bed. I would sleep all day long.

There is a time release kind, but I can't afford it. I think it cost about 90.00 a month. My insurance pays for the generic. And it isn't time released.

I hope that this helps you some. I took concerta for a while, it is like ritalin. But it didn't work consistantly for me. But when it did work it was wonderful. I could do all kinds of things and not be tired. It was just that it was in a weird form. Like a plastic barrel and I don't think I have enough stomache acid to break it down. Some days it didn't work at all.
