Kitt has just posted in Anxiety & Panic Disorders that her sister's ovarian cancer has returned.  Please let her know how much we all care for her, and share your thoughts and prayers with her at this time.

Thank you all,  I am getting ready to go to the hospital and spend the night.  My sister is in a great deal of pain.  Her daughter and I have been her major caretakers since 8/13/09. 

I don't know when I will be able to post again..........

Please keep on praying.

My DH drove me up here last evening about 6:30 PM as we are to have bad weather today and he will come back and get me when I am ready to go back home.........for now I do not know exactly when but I will be here all day.

My sister is in great pain and is constantly nauseated and having emesis.  The Team just made rounds this morning at 6:00 AM and will be making adjustments on her medications.  They know which  chemo med they want to start however idea she is to sick to start the med today????? We did ask for a consult with her attending and that should be around nooon time.

She is receiving Compazine and Zofran for the nausea and they are going to add a Scopalomine Patch. Also they are going to increase the Ativan as she gets 1 mg at bedtime.......how I wish I could write the orders. shocked .

I am sitting in the Atrium on the 7th floor of the U of MN Hospital over-looking the Mississippi.   The river is running fast down stream and I am watching the ice floes go by. The sky is heavy with storm clouds and I can hear the rumble of the jet planes over head as we are not far from the airport. It is peaceful to watch the river go by so I sit here and pray.

My heart is with all of you and please know that I am reading the posts but just not able to post much back. I posted this message in the A & P Forum also.

Karen, I will try to get an email to you sometime today........again your prayers are needed.  It seems I have asked for more then my share of prayers this past year.

Dear Loving Friends,

I am home today and I will be online.  I want to thank each of you for your support.

Here is an update on my sister and I will not post long posts like this as a habit but I just wanted to share with all of you.

Beverly's cancer has been confirmed by radiologisit to be scattered throughout her abdominal cavity and she has spots on her intestines.  The cancer has caused her bowel to shut down. She has what they call an ileus.  Ileus occurs from hypomotility of the gastrointestinal tract in the absence of a mechanical bowel obstruction. The Doctor explained the bowel is very sensitive and the cancer on it has caused this problem.

A nago-gastric tube was placed yesterday to pull back all the contents of her stomach and the Doctor wants complete rest for Beverly's bowel to see if it will start working again on it's own. If it does not then they would place a tube directly into her stomach to drain her gastric contents into a bag via gravity.


The stomach tube has eased the pain and fianlly after 24 hours of watching her suffer with no relief from the pain meds she is  much more comfortable.

The plan is at least 4 more months of chemo and see what happens.  There are so many if's.  Her attending physicisn Dr. Joneson is on maternity leave so one of her partners is covering my sister's case and I liked her.  We had a good meeting with her and her fellow  yesterday and of course we came up with questions after she left that we forgot to ask.

I know we are doing the " what if" game with the Doctors and that does put them on a spot as they truly are  in the dark as much as we are.

The chemo she had originally was Taxel and Taxotere. She had to receive it every 3 weeks.

The new chemo they are planning on is Doxil. A serious but uncommon side effect of Doxil can be interference with the pumping action of the heart. Yesterday Bev had a a Muga Scan of her heart to make sure this drug is safe for.

The MUGA scan (MUltiple Gated Acquisition scan) is a noninvasive test that produces a moving image of the heart. From this image, the health of the heart’s major pumping chamber (the left ventricle) can be assessed.

So medically that is where we are at.  Emotinally it is a hard ride for all of us and expecially for Beverly so I will ask that your prayers and thoughts continue for my sister.  She is a kind and decent person.............she did not deserve all this pain but no one does.

Just a brief update..............waiting for my sister's PCP to see her and let us know what the next step is in her plan of care.

My sister is in much pain again and they are looking at options for different pain med choice.

Me, I have been off Cymbalta since Monday..........feeling a bit shaky today but suspect that is due to my appointment with Pdoc.  confused

Kitt,

I hope they can come up with an effective plan for your sister's condition, and especially hope that whatever pain-relief methods they prescribe will make this more bearable for her. Please continue to take care of yourself and rest when you are able. We are all continuing to send good thoughts and continuing to keep you and Beverly in our prayers. (((hugs)))

Although I have just posted to you in A&P, I wanted to express my condolences on this thread as well, and to let the others here know about the news of your brother's passing. I can only imagine the sadness you and Beverly must feel, and I am so very sorry.

Good Morning Dear Friends,

Thank you for the prayers and for the words of sympathy.  I am staying home today and just trying to stay in the moment.

My sister Bev is having hallucinations now and that is making things even harder for her.  She has pneumonia and the latest update from the physicians was no chemo until the pneumonia or infection has been confirmed to be under control.

The Chemo will knock out her own immune system so as long as there is any infections or she is having any temperatures they will not give the chemo.  Meanwhile the cancer does it's thing.

I wish each of you peace and happiness.  You are truly kind and caring people.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Kitt. My sister is like a best friend to me and it would be agonizing to see her have to face something this difficult but I'd be strong for her and my family. I believe you have that strength inside you. You help so many people on here that I have no doubt you have in your abilities. Just remember that family and unity is the best thing at a time like this. Be there for each other, help each other through it and you will get through it.

hey kit, i know i'm new to this forum, but I just wanted you to know I hope your sister fights this off

again for good this time. I'm dealing with the same issue myself. I have abnormal cells they think that will turn, I must go in every 4 months. my thoughts and prayers will be with you and your sister. It's not a good feeling, but she will make it though. Sending you and yours my best.

I see that you are on the boards this morning, and wanted to say that I hope you had some rest last night. It has to be exhausting for you going through all of this, emotionally and physically. Good Morning Raniah,

I think perhaps you and are may be the early birds around here.  LOL (((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))

I am going to need to work hard today in focusing my thoughts on staying in the moment and I work 3 days this week and therefore cannot go uptown to the hospital.  I have to accept that the staff is very good and Beverly is in good hands.

I get frustrated as my niece likes to sleep in and she won't answer her cell phone until she is good and ready so sometimes it will be noon before I have a report on how Bev is doing.

I know I cannot let the little things get to me......... confused

For now I am just in a fog and taking it one step at a time.

Kitt.....I'm glad to know that you are pacing yourself with the upcoming work you have this week. I know it must be tough to be away from your sister right now, but you are absolutely right that she is in good hands! She is being cared for, and you need to care for yourself in order to stay strong through all of this. Good for you, my friend. (And yes, we are the early birds....LOL....I find it impossible not to get up with the sun!) Continue to rest when you need to/are able, and know that we are all here supporting you.
