Need advice on Wellbutrin

I have been on Zoloft since 99. It works good for me but sometimes is not enough. Especially, not at all for anxiety, specificially situational anxiety. I have been through a lot and the dr. put me on Clonzapam the generic of Klonopin twice a day .5mg. Most of the times I feel wonderful. I did call this week to ask if when needed I could increase it - I was told yes up to two more pills. I am trying to research to see if people stay on this for life for their anxiety. Dr. called today and wants me to try Wellbutrin. The generic form. I don't do well with generic meds at all. I get really sick. So I am willing to try it. Her goal is to get me off the Clonzapam (weaning me slowly) and unto just Zoloft and Wellbutrin since it covers all the neotransmitters. I was also told Wellbutrin helps with anxiety and depression. Has anyone been in this situation getting off a benz and then onto Wellbutrin or on Wellbutrin in general? I have read online not good things about the generic only the regular. Thanks for any and all help.

I've been on Wellbutrin for a year now.

PROS:
My anxiety and paranoia are gone. I'm more lucid during the day. I'm not depressed or suicidal. So basically, everything this drug is advertised to get rid of... it does.

CONS:
While I'm not depressed, I'm not exactly... there? I'm used to feeling extremes in emotions, so being on this medication... I feel very indifferent and neutral when it comes to emotions now. Take that as you will. If you like drinking alcohol a lot, say goodbye. You can have 1 or 2 drinks on Wellbutrin, but if you go beyond that you'll get sick quickly. The medicine gets you drunker faster, but alcohol is also counteractive to the medicine's purpose. The next day, you become disoriented and feel icky. The only big drawback I've seen on Wellbutrin, that was never mentioned to me, is memory loss. Before Wellbutrin, I had terrific short term memory. My long-term memory is fine, but I have the HARDEST time remembering things. Like, I'll be walking through the kitchen and remember to get something upstairs. Half way through my walk, I'll forget what I need. My doctors say it's because of lack of fluids, but I've researched it online and a lot of people experience this. Their memory comes back once they get off the med. though.

Thank you so much for info. It's good to know all this before I start this. Are you on the generic or the regular form of it?

I have been on a combination of Welbutrin and Effexor for about 5 years. I still have long periods of depression so I am going to ask my doctor to give me a change. I have the same problem with memory loss ( short term) but I have attributed it to aging.

I've been looking for an excuse for going to the garage and not remembering what I went for, so thanks for the insight. I am trying to keep my sense of humor intact. I find that self-deprecation helps at times. turn

I don't think it's aging. I'm in my early 20's and I only get this memory loss thing when I'm on the meds. I'm on Wellbutrin regular. I was on generic for a few months and loved it though. I also tried Prozac for exactly 3 days, but I got so violently ill I stopped immediately (Fever, Nausea, Diarrhea-- practically the common cold).

I am thinking of telling my dr. for now I just want to stay on the Clonzapam (generic klonopin) it's working well. Plus with my zoloft. I have read people have been on it for years with no problems. I think she would like to get me on the Wellbutrin but the pharmacist today told me people can have stomach probs with it (I have IBS and a very very sensitive stomach, can't even hardly take any antibiotics it's that sensitive) and it's so sensitive when we tried to increase my zoloft from 125 to 150 i got violently sick. I mean if the Klonopin were to stop working then I could make a switch? Is there anyone on here that just uses Zoloft or similar and a Benz such as Klonopin etc.

I did not find that Wellbutrin worked for me (it raised anxiety & caused severe side effects, but I did try both the name brand (2 months) & the generic (1 month) and did not find any difference as far as either potency or side effects. I understand your concern since I also can often tell the difference between the two, but at least for me, there wasn't any noticeable difference between the two.

Wellbutrin usually works pretty well for most people, but it's not for everyone either.. It's a science on getting the right dosages on medications.
