More Problems With Cymbalta

Hello again,

I've switched over from effexor xr 75mg to cymbalta 60mg, oh probably about a month ago.
Recently, I haven't been feeling too well again (depressed, nausea, diarrhea, small anxiety attacks)
My question is do you think I should go back to effexor on a higher dose or should I get a higher dose on cymbalta.
I've noticed lately the more I see about cymbalta, the more people have something bad to say about it...while effexor seems to have more success stories.

*sigh* I'm quite tired of being like this....I've never been this bad in my whole life...and I worry about it just getting worse and worse as I get older. Im only 21, I would like to live a happier life and these are the years I wanna remember, not regret!

Hi Adam,

I think you should talk to your doctor about this. I take 375mg of effexor every day and it seems to help. I wish that I didn't have to take antidepressants at all, but I guess I have to and will for the rest of my life. I have never tried cymbalta so I am no help there. But there are onthes on here who have.

I guess I worry about my body getting used to the anti-depressants as well.
So i'll have to keep taking more and more.

Adam,

That does happen but there is room to move on the Cymbalta.  May I ask why you switched meds?  Was the Effexor not working for you?

Effexor XR comes in 37.5mg, 75 mg, and 150 mg so you have room to move if you and your Doctor want to increase you dose. ( 112.5 mg or 150 mg).

Also there are other medications that work very well.  I was on Cymbalta for close to a year and I never did have good luck with it.  So I weaned off with my Pdoc's guidance.

I was recommended to get off effexor because I had a VERY bad anxiety attack, that lasted for days it seems like.
My doctor said it was maybe time to try something new.
I was worried about withdrawl symptoms with switching meds and cymbalta seemed like the most related to effexor, so she said we could go ahead and try it.
do you think I should go back to effexor?

Hey there, thanks for the explanation.  You may want to discuss Pristiq with your Doctor if Effexor did work for you at one time.

Pristiq is a drug similar in composition to Wyeth’s existing antidepressant, Effexor XR.  I have heard some members are doing well on this medication.

adam hi, changed from effexor to pristiq, 375mg effexor xr to 100mg pristiq first 2 wks to 200mg pristiq. i have had no side effects with transtion. transition was 3 days as it is a derivative of effexor. was on effexor for 4 yrs, it pooped a couple of times, since it was the most helpful i went back on it a few times, but now i am happy with the pristiq. more tappered over the day. hope this helps. jamie
