Cipralex Reaction Question

Hey

I've been on Cipralex for two weeks now. It is my first type of anti-depressant that I've ever taken as I've recently been diagnosed with depression. My question is that I felt that the Cipralex was working well and I noticed a positive effective effect on me. I was feeling happy and positive and laughing again. Now on week 3 I feel like I have a relapse. I am exausted, nauseated and very irritable again.

Is this normal or do I have to give it more time?

Hi JJ35,

Welcome to the depression forum. I am so glad that you have joined us.

It takes antidepressants a good four to six weeks to reach their full effect, so yes I would stick with it. If the side effects become real bothersome, I would consult with the doctor to see if this is the right medication for you. It took me quite a few different tries before they come up with the right med for me. The side effects were always intolerable. But it sounds like the cipralex is working well for you already.

Thanks for the welcome Karen.

It just seemed weird. The meds we're working and I was feeling so much better. Then now it feels like I am back to where I started. Rest assured I don't plan to give up. I gotta fix this once and for all because it's starting to take control over me. I guess it's just because I am starting and I know it will take time.

Yeah, the medications have to get completely into your system. I hope that you feel better again. You did once, so I don't see why you wouldn't once they get into your system. Plus we have crappy days now and then anyway.

some meds are hit and miss. give it some time, alike karen it could be just a bad day. keep talikin' with your doc. welcome 2 the forum. hoping you feel better soon. with compassion, jamie.

Thanks. It's been a bad week actually. I'm seeing my doctor next week so I'll let him know what's been going on. Probably have to increase the dosage.

That is very possible, but he might wait a few weeks to do that. It does take time for the ad to reach it's full potential.
