Hello-
I haven't posted on here in a very long time. I'm not new to depression, I've been fighting it since I was a teenager, and I'm 40 now. But tonight I've started crying and I can't stop. I had to leave work because it was starting on and off through the day. Intellectually, I know it will stop - it has to, but it feels like I'm not gonna be able to get it under control. When it started, it was almost a relief, b/c it had been building and felt like I needed to get it out of my system. But now it's so strong it's scary.

I do have an appt w/my psychiatrist tomorrow (made the appt today), and my thyroid doc has ordered blood tests that I can also get tomorrow, to see if I've gone farther hypo.

I guess I just feel scared and am looking to know that I'm not alone.
FWIW, in addition to depression, I have anxiety, Hashimoto's and celiac. I am being treated for all of them.

Hello, Gigi,

I'm glad you've come back to post again. It sounds as if you're taking very good care of yourself, and I feel sure your specialists will have you going full steam ahead shortly.

Do you by any chance use the artificial sweeteners such as Aspartame, Sucralose, saccharin, or any of the others that are on the market now? They are so acidic and will start me on a bout of weeping about three hours following ingestion of one of them. The only thing that will correct it for me is to begin drinking water, just as much as I can tolerate for about three hours to recover from the let down of these
products. Stevia is the only one to date that has been proven to be
harmless. It's double trouble if you have a sensitivity to them as I do.

please let us know how your doctor visit goes tomorrow. But sometimes I wonder if
an allergy can be bringing on the tears and then your depression making it worse,
allergies are up right now, My eye's will start to water and then it looks like I'm
crying...Just a thought...I hope your feeling better soon, drink plenty of
water that your crying took out of you...

Hi It's Genetic and Chartreux,

Thank you both for your replies.

It's Genetic, I try to stay away from artificial sweeteners, but I do drink diet cola sometimes. I hadn't made a connection between that and crying, so thank you for the suggestion.

Chartreux, I know in this case my crying is a symptom of depression, but thanks for the reminder about drinking water. I tend to get migraines, and I know dehydration can contribute to those.

I will keep you posted after my doctor's visit.

Gigi,

Thank you for posting, I am sorry for how you are feeling right now. Maybe a trip to the doc, or talking to a therapist would help you. Coming here for support is great too! I hope that you feel better soon.

Thank you Jamiee and Karen.

I did see my psych doc today, and he's having me add a new med (a very small dose) to help boost the effect of the anti-depressant I'm on (also a low dose, but it's worked for me). So I'll start that tomorrow.

I also got blood drawn today to check to see if I've gone more severely hypothyroid, and if that medicine needs to be adjusted too. I feel like that is definitely contributing to this also.

I'm worried about in the meantime, trying to work with the crying spells that I'm having. (I work part-time, and like a lot of people, especially nowadays, my husband and I are just barely making ends meet) I can't sit and work and cry and cry. I'm hoping the worst of the crying is past for now, and that I'll be able to work tomorrow and Friday to make up most of the hours I've missed this week.

Thank you all so, so much. This forum really has been helpful to me.

I sure do hope that you feel better soon.  Crying all day is no fun, as you well know.  I hope that the crying spells subside with the new medication.  Did you want to say what the medication is?  I take pristiq and abilify, they work good for depression.  I also take xanax.

Hi Karen,

I take 30mg Cymbalta and will be starting 2mg Abilify for depression today.
For anxiety I take 5mg diazepam "as needed" - not more than 20mg/day.

I'm just starting my day and already the tears and heaviness have started, but I'm going to try to not let the anxiety I feel about crying get the best of me today. Intellectually I know that worrying and being anxious about it isn't going to help, it's a matter of how I feel though, so I'll see I guess.

Gigi,

You are really going to like the abilify. I love it. Not only does it help your ad work better, it is a mood stabilizer. It doesn't take as long as the ad to start working either. In a few days you should be feeling better. Best wishes to you. I hope that this works.

Aw man, I know exactly what you mean about the crying. Whenever I go through bad times, I always cry on public transport. I don't know why. It's like I can't do it at home alone. It's really embarrassing! I'd walk through Dublin crying my eyes out. I hope the medication helps you out, & that you know you're really not at all alone *hugs*

Thank you all so very much. Karen, thank you for the reassuring words about Abilify working pretty quickly, b/c right now that's what I need - for something rather fast acting. I did make it through the day, when it got difficult, I do have one coworker who I can confide in, and I did tell her how hard things were. Plus it helped that I was able to read your messages from work.

Thanks for being here for me, thinking of me, and for helping me know I'm understood and not alone.

When I'm feeling better, I hope to be able to be supportive of all of you and of others who are also in need of support. This forum is very helpful.

Stayed home from work today, due to a really bad cold, but am glad to be able to sleep too, depression is so exhausting.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Abilify seems to be helping quite a lot. I'm feeling better, though dealing with some side effects of Abilify that I hope will go away soon. Got my blood test results from my thyroid doctor, and he doesn't want to increase my thyroid med levels right now. My vitamin D level is *extremely* low though, so I'm going to start taking a large vitamin D supplement, and the mineral selenium, which will hopefully help with Hashimoto's (which is related to depression).

So I want to thank you all again. And hopefully I can be of some help to all of you.

I am really happy that the abilify is working too. I take it also and it has been a life saver for me. What miligram are you on? I found my insurance doesn't pay a lot on it so I have a high copay. But I guess it is expensive. But I get a double mg script and I cut them in two and it lasts two months. So that helps. If you have to raise your dose in the future, don't feel bad because I did. I take ten mg a day. But it works great.
