Prozac saved my life. I was born depressed. I stopped thinking suicide. I've been taking prozac for 30 years now. My sister has relapsed into depression again. I feel ok..but really I'm just exiting. Years ago I tried others and went back to Peozac. My sister and I have increased our meds to 40+ a day. I think my sister is at 80 which is the limit.

Hi Bbomber,
I am so happy that prozac has helped you. And for such a long period of time. Some drugs fizzle out, but this one sure doesn't seem to. I am happy for you. Welcome to the depression forum. I am glad that you have joined us and have such positive news. Keep posting.
Hugs, Karen

I developed social anxiety disorder about three years ago. I spoke to a psychologist, a family therapist, and a psychiatrist; all of them came to a consensus on Prozac. I took Prozac for one year, along with the occasional Lorazepam tablet. After that, I stopped taking both and did not experience any further symptoms of social anxiety disorder. I've been able to return to eating in the middle of large crowds, working part-time amongst a large group of students, and I even enjoyed a seven-month relationship. I attribute my transformation to the Prozac alone, since my Lorazepam consumption was very sparse. My counseling during that period was also sporadic, and not particularly insightful. However, I remained consistent with the Prozac. I no longer have any qualms about approaching strangers or immersing myself in public places.
I realize that this is only anecdotal evidence, but I personally recommend Prozac for those struggling with anxiety.
Sincerely,
Brad

I have been taking prozac for about 20yrs. It really works well for me. I am on 80mg. I had one of the worst cases of OCD that my psychiatrist had ever seen. Prozac doesn't usually have bad side effects either.....another plus.
