Is Anyone Having Bad Dreams With Depression?

For the last several weeks I have been without medications for depression and have been getting along well.  However, two nights ago I had a bad dream that occurred in the morning in the early stages of awakening and thought it really haunting.  I dreamed that a small, brown, furry animal with large white canine teeth bit me on the forehead and it was supposedly a deadly bite, but an angel was watching over me and told me that the dream didn't mean I was going to die but live very securely under the guidance of the angel.

What a weird dream!

I've been controlling depression by drinking purified water, having nothing with caffeine in it and trying to eliminate sugar and white flour products.  I had stopped the stabilizer and am taking only aspirin which is known to relieve symptoms of depression and instability. It was working well until I ate some peanuts two nights ago.  Maybe this is a signal that diet is heavily influential in depressive illness.

Are any of you having dreams that you remember afterwards as being unusual or so strange that you remember them?  If so, please share if you would and let us know if your diet, in your view, has anything to do with it.

Hi IG,

I use to have bad nightmares all of the time. I think it was caused by stress at that time. I have very vivid dreams. And they continue from one to the next sometimes. Really strange, like I have two lives. My real life and my dream life. I have done wierd things in my sleep too.

My husband use to take ambien and he would kind of fall asleep before he went to bed. He would be talking to you and saying wierd things, but he would never remember it.

I am kind of off topic of what you were asking, but find this an interesting topic. Dreams... I hope that yours get better.

I don't usually have bad dreams but they are rather vivid. Strange too, but i feel like my dreams have anyway been a little off :)

Is it the dreams that are awakening you, Jamie, or do you think it's
something else like the diabetes or something in your diet or one of
your meds? Are you able to determine what's causing the dreams?

When dreams make clear sense to me I get it. When they don't, I wonder how the unconscious mind is organizing things to let me know something important.

Do you all feel the same way about dreams?

there getting worse. mentioned it to the shrink. he is waiting fotr the increase in the tegretol to kick in. he beleives it will help-when the rapid cycling eases that is. forgoing coffee-am trying, drinking more water as well. jamie.

Since I started having anxiety/depression issues, I do not dream at all.  Or atleast I do not recall them.

IT, you know I am a firm believe that diet is very important in maintaining a balance.

I'm glad you're stopping the caffeine as you are able, Jamie. Things will improve for you as you remove it completely. Drinking more water is going to help, too, in just a few days you'll sense the difference. I know you have a lot on your mind with school and all.
Try to keep it one day at a time until the pressure eases.

Yes, Gem, I'm so glad you've straightened out your diet. It does make the best sense to do that. I'll have to forget about peanuts; they just cause me to dream things that I don't like.

Eating out is hard on the digestive system, too. It's better for me to make casseroles and eat at home trying to add salads and more fresh green vegetables.


Vitamin C is almost a miracle worker for me. When the energy level is low, I know that I need to take Vitamin C. It does help me.

I got the meaning of the unconscious dream of the furry brown animal and the large, white canine teeth (or at least the most meaningful to me interpretation).

The brown animal represents the caffeine in coffee and tea, though I don't drink coffee at all (haven't in years), but do drink tea when going out for a meal. That's going to stop; the dream is responsible.

The second aspect, the large, white canine teeth, is milk. I love it--all kinds, regular, chocolate, cheese, yogurt, ice cream--and they all are
digested as highly acidic.

Caffeine or theophylline causes damage to the frontal lobes of the
brain over a period of years, and it takes about 12 months of complete withdrawal to remove the symptoms. The milk is digested as highly acidic and can cause its own problems, as well as the fat.

The angel watching over me is the unconscious mind which is designed to warn us of things that are not good for us. Why the unconscious mind must go round about to get to us with the truth is something I've yet to understand, but it never fails to be on target when it comes to what's not good for us.

Try to anaylze your next dream and see what you get; I'll bet you that it is something that is intended to be helpful for your life and well-being.

I find the subject of dreamz very interesting. I haven't had a good dream in years, unfortunately. My dreamz are usually having to do with being attacked (as i was hurt by someone I loved, last November), Or having to do with alcohol and or meth and getting taken by the police. These dreamz get really bad and I don't know what triggers them, I know some meds make them worse for me.

Thank you, Serenitee, I'm sleeping fine. Just once in a while I get a
dream that puzzles me, and I think about it off and on until it's resolved.

You might want to discuss your dreams with your specialist if you'd rather not discuss them here. So often, bringing a subject out into the open clears up the problem. It could very easily be a medication or something in the diet that is causing you the repeated experience of a same or similar dream.

Keep talking about them here, if you like. You might be able to get
some insight into the unconscious meaning you need to think about.

I always have bad dreams,anxiety dreams..find them very interesting.. 2 nights ago I had a very vivid dream about being stuck on a huge plane (hate flying) and was with family and friends who would not talk to me. In the dream I kept checking purse for keys and ticket over an over again. The dream ended with everyone leaving me and I had to walk home in the dark..
It was one of those awful, vivid dreams that you do not know exactly what it means..
When I was taking ambien I would sleepwalk and wake up on the front door landing with keys in hand! Scary huh? I do not know if diet is related to dreams. I think just stress is, its worth analyzing them and interpreting.

Some people say that they've had bad dreams when taking Zyprexa,
Lasardo. Ambien (a sleep aid) will give me a bad dream on occasion.

Have you been able to identify the meaning of the keys and flying with
family members who leave you at the end of the dream? It's worthy of your attention, particularly in view of the fact that you endure panic attacks at times. Keep working on the interpretation for yourself.

I have been trying to analyze this dream, i keep running it over and over in my head..I am supposed to be flying to florida from Arizona in February for a wedding in October. I do not think I can go because of finances..I am supposed to be the maid of honor too! Arghh! It stresses me out so bad!
I am on abilify now but was on Zyprexa..this is gross but the side effect I got from that was lactating..no kidding so doctor pulled me off that thank god!
Do you ever go on "chat " genetic? Everyone goes on in the evening, its very helpful if you are interested. I hope to see you there!

No, I've never used the chat rooms, Lasardo, because I never found
anybody online at the time I visited.

I have a couple of intuitions regarding your dream:

1. Keys: the keys (or key) may have two meanings. The first is that
keys open things (which may be a clue to you that the trip may cause you to have to open the pocketbook a little more than you feel you can afford.) The second meaning of key is that it is an answer to something: perhaps the flight itself and being onboard with people who won't speak to you is an indication that people will be upset if you don't fly to the wedding and meet your obligations. The unconscious
mind could be telling you to resolve the dilemma so that you feel you
have successfully found a solution so that there's no walking alone
in the dark without the  family, etc.

Come to think of it, the keys may represent one solution for you on

how to make the trip.  Drive with someone to the wedding or take

another means of travel, perhaps.  You could probably give several

meanings to the word "keys", such as flying to the Florida Keys for

vacation combining it with the trip to the wedding.  It just goes on and on, as you wish.

Those are  possible ideas, but I do think the keys are important in your dream since they continue to appear over and over again. You may have many other ideas  that open the mystery for you much more clearly.

Examining one's dreams usually provides a happy resolution if they are
thought about in a way that expects happy solving of a problem.

Your good genetic! I think you analyzed my dream quite well..it has to do with not meeting people's expectation's. I know I am thinking about it all the time so eventually I would be dreaming about it..
