My suggestion to you is to NOT try to forget about your Dad's passing or focus on something else or do something else so it can come and go more quietly.
Rather my suggestion is to take time to acknowledge your Dad's life. Do something to celebrate his life. This can be anything from fixing his favorite meal to making a special photo album or scrapbook. Write a letter to him, write a poem, put together a slide show on your computer, make a donation in his name. These are just suggestions. Do whatever feels right to you and spend some time remembering him when he was alive and healthy.
It is normal and fine to mourn the death of people we love but it is also fine to honor their life, recall the good times and smile or laugh at the fond memories.
