Different types of meds...

I have read some information about different meds but alot of them sound exactly the same to me. What exactly is the difference between a prozac or zoloft? I read that wellbutrin is different in its side effects (no sexual side effects), but does it work differently?

I am just wondering how a doctor figures out what is actually the right thing for you. I hope that the prozac works. But I think that I will need a sleep aid on top of this because it has made my insomnia issues worse than before.

I am just looking to see what the best option out there are? I remember someone mention that some are good for depression and pain? I have issues with both but tend to ignore the pain. Any thoughts on this?

I too have tried several SSRI's (the class of drugs that the med's you mentioned fit into). I have finally ended up with lexapro. But these drugs do have subtle differences which make them a trial and error process from person to person. I too have increased insomnia due to my anti-d. I have finally rounded it out with a 25 mg dose of another anti-d called amitriptyline and I am finally sleeping well. I too have pain issues, but am on anti-inflams and plaquenel for that. Couldy is right . . . it is a trial and error process, but well worth the effort.

I am not sure about that but I suffer from depression but these days its not that bad but back then they couldent find a med they tryed all kinds on me and it was the hardest thing cause i had to overcome depression by myself it wasent easy but i tryed to make it the best thing ever i wrote in a jurnol and wrote and wrote never stopped and i tell you what it helps alot you may think it dont but it dose i suffer from depression because i have been abused awhile back and no one belived me but after going to cousiling and stuff my aunt learned to discpline us in ways of not abusing us i lived 8 years without parents in my life do i feel srry do i blame myself no i dont i just go day by day relizing i wanna be better then my famliy do i hate them no everyone makes mistakes and sometime you just have to suck it up and live with it. I will never hate my parents for what they put me though i will always love and care for them i have learned alot living here with my aunt then i would have if i lived with my parents learned how to clean cook take care of kids all that and what got me this far is writeing in a book try it it works

I have a lot of stirring. Of course I usually write it all down too. Sometimes here, sometimes in a journal of sorts. I wish that would help me think about things less often. I think a big part of why I can't sleep is just an inability to relax. Sounds like a lot of people take xanax, is that stuff mild or potent? is it a sedative? I would ask my doc for some of those if it would help me stop thinking about everything for a while, it is like a constant nervous worrying. You would never know if you looked at me though, it isnt like a panic attack- My mom said I am stoic. I don't show my emotions in my face very often. I also have a job that require me to be very unemotional. But inside my mind is running a hundred miles an hour.

My thoughts are usually about how I am going to end up losing my job or how I will have another major flare up. How will I take care of my wife and what will my family think of me if I end up on disability? I never really let my mind rest.

As a rule, anti-depression medications come in different classifications. Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Celexa are classified as SSRI's and target the area of the brain that is the seratonine (SP) receptors. Wellbutrin, Effexor are in a different classification of medication that target other areas of the brain and it's hormonal secretions. This is why it may take several tries before finding the one that works best for you. Even within the same classification of meds, your body will react to it differently. Good luck in finding the answers you are looking for.

I didn't feel like they were doing anything. What I noticed was that people weren't "argueing" as much and they weren't "yelling" at me as much. I thought my husband was an absolute peach and my kids seemed like they were the brady bunch (4 youngsters at the time). Suddenly, I realized that "I was ME again". Hurray. I hope that happens to you to. I couldn't believe how much better life was.!!!!

I hear you about the 'happy pill'. That would be awesome. Of course I am feeling alot more motivated to do stuff now that the prozac has kicked in. I have been to the gym 3 days in a row. That is a first for well over a year. I used to be a total gym rat.

So, it might not be a true happy pill, but I am doing much better because of it. Now if I can get the prednisone weight off!!!
