I'm doing some research on the role of one's thoughts when it comes to depression. Any information or suggestions where to do some additional reading would be most appreciated. How are dreams (while sleeping) and day dreams associated with depressive thoughts. When one is feeling overwhelmed and hopeless and their mind wanders into thoughts that reinforce their depressive tendencies. It may begin as supposing "What if..." thoughts. I'm interested in the development of depression that is initiated by external circumstances. A person starts to be impacted with difficult situations like unemployment, medical diagnosis, relationship issues, etc. What is going on mentally that brings about the depression rather than...what is the alternative?
