Hi everyone. I just got out of the hospital due to after being on Effexor XR for 18 years for Major Depression. I also take Xanax 3-4 mgs. a day. The doctor I saw there weaned me off of the Xanax saying that it could have been causing the depression to return. I do not believe this, as I know the Effexort XR just stopped working. I feel blessed that it had worked for me for so long. The doctor has prescribed Viibryd and I am just on day 7 and I can't see that it has helped any with the depression. Of course, I know it can take up to 4 weeks to feel better. Currently, I am on 20 mgs a day and after a week will go to 40 mgs a day. I was wondering if anyone had tried Viibryd and could give me some feedback on it. Thank you all very much

I have never tried viibryd for depression, but I did take effexor for over 15 years. I am on pristiq now. The way I switched, I never skipped a beat. I was on them both at the same time, then went off the effexor slowly.

It can take as much as six to eight weeks for the viibyrd to reach full potential, so be patient with it. I think that there was a thread on it before, I will look for it and see if I can't find you the link.

Hey Karen, I was wanting to ask you if major depression can make you feel physically numb. I smoke and it's like sometimes I can't even feel the cigarette. It's like my lips are numb. Have you ever heard of this?

No I haven't but it could be some form of disassociation. Maybe??? Maybe you could talk to your therapist about it. I am trying to quit smoking. Only had 2 1/2 so far today. Yippy!!! I hope that your day is good.

I was thinking too, are you staying in the moment, focussing on what you are doing? Often our mind wanders and we don't feel what is going on around us. I have had to practice mindfulness a lot. It is so easy to lose that.

But anyway, keep up the good work, keep posting.
