Is anyone diagnosed with borderline personalty disorder? I just started therapy for it and was told they believe it is the main problem I have. I was wondering if anyone else has this, how do you cope, did therapy work, and any other advice that would be helpful, thanks!

Hi Kcizan,
I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder as well. I'm currently in therapy for it. As Jamie said, Dialectal behaviour
Therapy (DBT) for Borderline Personality Disorder. I doing DBT presently. It didn't seem to help at first but eventually it started helping and I am now able to cope with thing differently, etc...
I would say that you should stay in therapy because it really helps even if it takes some time.
Hang in there...

Hi Kcizan,
Welcome to the forum. I believe UA meant to "am able now able to cope with things...."
Therapy is a huge, huge factor in how to learn to deal with your diagnosis. It is one that is not going away, so a person must learn how to live with it. This is NOT a bad thing though.
In DBT therapy you learn that you do not become your diagnosis. You learn that you control your actions and emotions. I did intenstive DBT therapy for 6mos. The skills are now part of my daily life, they are easy and no one knows I am doing them. I have no mania and it keeps me from crisis.
I do not have bipolar, however, I have other issues that mirror biopolar when they flare.
I wish you peace and strength.

Thanks everyone, I just started DPT but I am not really sure if my therapist knows exactly what she is doing. She kept saying "as I learn more about
DPT and how it works" but it is the only therapist I could get in this quick that does DPT and I have only seen her once so I am going to ride it out longer and hope for the best!

it is DBT dialectical Behavior therapy
there is a workbook you can get at the book store or on line it is called the "Dialectical Behavior therapy Skills workbook" It is the green one.
It is by far the best workbook for DBT and good for you to have to work with with or wo your therapist. some therapist don't like clients jumping ahead, but I only benefited from doing the skills. It would be up to you. The book explains alot of the skills and backround for a clearer understanding.
Hope it helps you
Trina
