Hi there,

Does anyone know if after being on all SSRI', Effexor, Wellbrutrin if it's possible that Ant-depressants just stop working.

Reason why I'm asking is because I have been diagnosed with Severe PMS when I was approx. 30 years old , I then had a major depression a few years ago and also went to Alcoholics Anynomous for the past 14 yrs. I am 43 yrs old and feel my life is pretty much over. I have tried everything from Therapy, Recovery to spirituality to religion & Support groups, Working Out,cannot seem to feel like there is much hope that I will ever get well. I feel lonely, flat-lined for the past 6 months. My weight is 165lbs & 5'4 I use to weigh 115 befor kids.And really obsessing for this weight gain, Youngest being 16 oldest being 22. I remarried a wonderful successful man 8 yrs ago. I also developed fibromyalgia aprx 9 years ago so I can no longer work .

I need help from someone who might know what I'm going through.

Hi pudding,  There are many, many antidepressants that can help...I too have taken a wide range and at one time felt this also after being on Prozac, Luvox, Remeron, Zoloft and now my most recent one Effexor.  I have to say that I haven't as yet gained any weight with Effexor and am feeling pretty good overall.  Of course, I do exercise when I can (I also have many health problems) and try to stick to a good diet but this is hard when I love food so much... They are coming out with new antiD's all the time and there are several newer ones on the market that are showing great effects with people that have depression.  Ok, I had to come back and edit as I didnt realize you were already taking Lexapro...sorry I was wondering if your doctor has ever tried what is commonly called "stacking"?, adding more than one antidepressant at a time to try to force a response when a single med isnt being effective any longer.  Sometimes people who have been on these meds for many years find it difficult to get relief from their symptoms with a singe med so it is acceptable and often done to stack meds to get the desired effect.

Hi Pudding,

I take lexapro (cypralex) too and ive found its the only one thats worked for me so far. Ive tried prozac, remeron and zoloft and they had bad side effects for me but the lexapro is helping me now.
I hope you can find something that helps. There are many out there so hopefully you will find one that suits you

Hi, i just registered today and im on 15 mg of cipralex up from 10. however, i dont feel a difference, its as if there was no increase at all and ive been on the 15 for two weeks now. when i went to my psychiatrist he gave me a total of 30 seconds to explain how ive been feeling on the 10 mg and then just wrote me a prescription for 20 mg and told me if its too much then take 15.. but wats too much exactly.. so i felt cheated of his time and im thinking of switching. i dont even think a 20 mg dose would help.. but at the same time isnt cipralex supposed to be the most effective SSRI in the market now? basically im confused and all ive experienced with this medication is crushed hope or maybe ive just set myself up for disappointment, its a pill not a miracle-worker! so im thinking of coming off cipralex altogether and measuring my improvement that way - if i did improve then id be much worse off without it or if i didnt improve id feel the same way.. i just want to feel something and id appreciate any advice.

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum. You have posted on a very old thread. Six years old that is. I hope that you get some responses.

I would say, give the med time to work. It often takes six to eight weeks for a change to take place, so be patient. being that you are already taking it, it could be sooner to get results. Try to be paitient...

There are many different SSRI medications on the market. Plus SSNI medications. So if this doesn't work for you, you can always try something else. Just remember it takes time.

I'm on the same meds 15 as well and feel depressed still, I've been on them for 5 months and wondering if I'm going to notice anything yet

Welcome to the forum.

5 mos on the same med and not noticing an improvement is not good. Time to call the doctor, stand up for yourself and ask for another try at a med change. Some people have to go through many changes before thy find what works for them. I went through 7 myself.

It is hard, but you must be proactive!

If the doctor rushes you through the appointment let them know you feel this way. They are not gods, human like you and me. They need to be told when they are making you feel bad. Learning to stand up for yourself is half the battle in depression. Doing it calmly and in non-violent communication is very satisfying.
