switching from effexor xr to wellbutrin xl

I have asked my dr to switch me for various reasons from the Effexor XR to Wellbutrin XL. One being the weight gain but second the feeling of being so darn tired all the time. She said for me just to stop one and start the other. Maybe i have been reading far too much but is this an ok thing to do? I missed one dose of the Effexor one day and thought I was dying. Oh good lord, please someone help tell me if this is what I should do. I am totally lost and dont want to spend the holidays ill! Thanks all. I am new here!

maybe I will talk to the pharmacist before actually doing anything. I have had a stomach bug this weekend and the thought of any changes makes my head spin even more. thanks you!

Hey. I just made the switch about a month ago. DO NOT just quit the Effexor cold turkey. Taper off of it. I took a pill every other day for 2 weeks, WHILE taking the Wellbutrin. The Wellbutrin and Effexor work different sides of the brain. It's totally cool to take both on the days where you are tapering. Start the Wellbutrin and take the Effexor every other day for as long as you need to. Good luck. Once I got off the Effexor, I haven't had any withdrawal symptoms because I overlapped with the Wellbutrin.
