Yes.. I was put on Zoloft for anxiety after my doctor asked why I start to drink again after a period of sobriety.. I told him i get anxiety and drink(I think) to allieviate it.. So he gave me Zoloft.. What actually works better for alcohol cravings is something called Naltrexone. I have been off and on it for some years and it isn't prescribed for anxiety/depression, but I'll tell you, it really mellowed me out and was much better than Zoloft.. I stopped Zoloft a few days ago due to weight gain and am dieting now.. so look into Naltrexone.. it works pretty good.. It was designed for narcotic addicts to interupt the craving cycle, but beware.. if you are on narcotics of any kind, Naltrexone will put you into IMMEDIATE WITHDRAWLS and they can be very harsh.. also, tell your doctor your on Naltrexone as narcotic pain medication doesn't work as effectively when your taking the meds.. Science hasn't figured out why it works for alcohol cravings but it does and is prescribed for that as well as for narcotics.. The additional effect of relieving my anxiety was a very welcome although unknown(to me) side effect. I felt the difference in about
2 to 3 days, so unlike some depression meds that might take up to 6 weeks.. Naltrexone(generic for Revia) works fast. There's also a med for alcohol craving called Campral. I have tried it but like Naltrexone better. With Campral..it's usually 2 to 3 pills 3 times/day and Naltrexone only 1 pill per day.. I was on 50mg/day.
