I suffer with severe clinical depression, i have been on a numerous combination of anti depressants and mood stabilisers,
I take duloxotine 90 mg a day, Lamotrogene 30 mg a day and cipralex 20 mg a day, i have just been told that i need to come off of Cipralex as it is causing palpitations, to be replaced my 5mg of Abilify daily,
i have looked into this drug as i have any new meds that i have, most of it seemed possitive,i am just about to wean off of cipralex and introduce the Abilify, ( no looking forward to that !!) i'm sure you all know how horrible it is coming off one of your meds to swap!!
Just wondered if anyone could give me an insight as to if it worked for you or not? getting a bit anxious confused

Hi Gingging,

Welcome to the forum. I have been on abilify for a couple of years now and it works good for me. I find it keeps me in a good mood, and helps me with thinking obsessively. I take 10mg a day. In my opinion, it is a good medication. Switching mood stabilizers is easier than anti depressants. And the abilify usually starts working within a week.

I see that cipralex is an antidepressant.  There may be some withdraw symptoms.  Abilify will make your other meds work better.  Good luck with the med change...

thanks for that, i hope it works as well for me, i have resistant clinical depression so have been on so many different combinations that i can't actually think of the last ones that gave me even some relief.
The last time i saw a positive lift in my mood was after i had a course of ect 4 years ago ! so i'm hoping this might be THE ONE !
I'll leave feedback as to how it's going :-)

Hi Gingging,

I am on my 2nd week of 10mg of Abilify in replacement of 5mg of risperdal. It is amazing the effect it is having. Already it is helping my overall mood. I am up early in the morning doing the things I use to like to do.

I am also starting to loose the weight I gained on the risperdal.

You do have to keep an eye on your sugar intake and drink lots of water, stay out of the sun and watch the heat index etc.

Otherwise it is not a problem to take to most people. I wish you well on it.

It would be so nice to be able to get up early and have some energy, i have felt as if i have had lead boots on for such a long time, started to reduce my cipralex yesterday and can start Abilify end of next week. fingers crossed,

Oh I do hope you feel at least a little of what I have gotten out of Abilify. I was up at 5:45am again this morning. Thanks to one of dogs, but I could not go back to bed. So I will keep very good thoughts for you Ging!
