To wantobemeagain ...
Maybe I'm misinterpreting this but - is the pych nurse practitioner functioning as a psychologist? Whether or not - whoever gave you the diagnosis ... sounded more like misguided orders!!! A counselor full of criticism - I think - is a counselor worth replacing!
I once used a counselor for a substantial period of time, when many things were going wrong in my life. I found, thru the local township, a group of psycologists that worked on a sliding fee scale. It was not going to be covered by my insurance at the time, and I guess I got lucky! I found a very good Psycologist with a doctorates degree (and with a similar family background as mine) ... and because of the sliding fee and having a bad business year (the prior year), her fees were about 30% of what they should have been.
She helped a great deal ... and without using any criticism. I went to her because of depression and confusion - and being very lonely. She helped me to understand how important communications of feelings are - even if only to yourself at times. She got me out of my general feelings of guilt (from long ago by momma) ... and she helped guide me to how important a social life is (at a time when I was burying myself).
So ....... a good counselor is a great start.
My one and only experience with a nurse practioner is current - and thru my Oncologists office. I have nothing but high regard and respect for how she handles herself and her patients. But ... I still wouldn't go to her exclusively for my cancer treatment advice.
Please ... keep looking for a counselor, therapist or whatever title might be used, as long as the person is qualified ... listens wells and cristizes little.
Best wishes
