I am currently on Bupropion 150 mg twice a day (morning and noon) and Abilify in the morning with the bupropion.  Recently got new job and have been told that the Abilify will cost me $700 a 30 day supply (no joking here).  Well, I did talk to my psych doc and he changed me from Abilify to a very old drug from way back called Thiothixene.  I read the side effects part of the paperwork (which alone the side effects paragraphs were 7 inches of warnings).  I am very scared to start taking this new med because of all the dangers of the drug.  I am going to call doctor on Monday and see what I can do to get off the Abilify.  Has anyone experienced going off Abilify in a short-time frame like 18 days?  I say 18 days as that is how many more Abilify I have.

Thank you in advance for any input.  It will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ocean1,

I am on Abilify. I have expierenced few side effects except for a sensitivity to the heat and humidity.

After only 18day, I should not think you would have a problem going off the drug. Ask your doctor if you can try Buspar. There is a generic for that and I was on that 3 times a day for over a year without any side effects. Worked very well for me.

Only reason I switched to Abilify was my memories got worse and depression, bad thoughts deepened. So it was an internal/external factor not the drug not doing its job.

Good job calling the doctor for medication changes!! best of luck. Let us know how you med out.

Abilify goes in to your system rather quickly and leaves rather quickly too. I don't think you should have any problems going off of it. I am sorry that it is so expensive, have you contacted the manufacturer, often they will give you free ones. Give it a try. Sometimes for a year.

Hi I'm new to all of this. I recently just started a new job also have severe depression been on Cymbalta which just makes me tired so I thought about getting on Abilify for Pristiq I won't have insurance starting October 1 anybody have any luck with those two?????

I take Abilify and have had a good expierence on it.

I take both abilify and pristiq, they both work good for me. I wish you the best with them.

There was some weight gain on the abilify, not enough to stop taking the medication. No tremors that I remember, starting feeling like my old self , happy that is, for longer periods of time within 2 weeks.

the worst SE is the heat and the sun. Have to very careful of that, you can get heat stroke very easialy. Faster than you would think.

I currently take Pristiq, on me it is used to treat my Fibro as well as depression. I also take Lithium because, except for Pristiq, which is new, and some of the other, Really old meds, like Wellbutrin and Elavil, I have insanely bad side effects from psych meds, with Abilify it was Migraines that started off occasional and ended up being every day all day and included pseudo-seizuresshocked(my neurologists word)which is what happens Before a seizure. I am not saying that psych meds are bad, quite the opposite,idea I couldn't function without them and my reactions are severe because I have/had brain tumors, however if you read the side effects for Abilify you will see Seizures listed. My so-called psych doc never should have prescribed that too me but we have to look out for ourselves. You can look up any drug on the net, and you can also get a 2nd opinion from a therapist a NP or your regular doc(you already got the part about coming here) so just keep asking questions :-)
