What are you reading right now?

I am currently reading Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam, the last in a trilogy about the near-future. I love her construct of how the 'world' as we know it will end, and how our society 'might' end up. Some might call it sci-fi, but I would call it more future historical fiction.

If her name rings a bell, The Handmaid's Tale was hers.

Just talking about books! Though I haven't really said what I'm reading, but I'd stopped reading it for a while, so I might start up reading it again :) Hope you are both well.

Having the attention span of a flea, I am reading light fiction. "the straw men" just started it. But I also had another paperback by the bed and would pick up the wrong one and think I was really losing it-lol.

I adore historical fiction (no, not harlequin) and I used to read the encyclopedia when I was young. I read shampoo bottles.

And, glory be, my daughter loves to go to the library with me and we are like kids on xmas. If she likes it, you can't pry her away.

My 30 year old nephew on the other hand, has never read a book that was not required for school.

Anyway, I found a list of books that authors are reading, so will start on that soon

I am not reading anything right now, but I wanted to say that I am working on a pen and ink drawing. I will let you all know how it turns out. Great thread Myself, I know some of us here like to read. I can only handle reading short articles and stuff like that right now. Can't concentrate enough to do a book or novel.

I can read a book, but it takes me forever. I'm not sure what has destroyed my concentration span more: the internet/videogames or depression :-/

I've got zombies to catch up with (shouldn't be hard; they're pretty slow :p), so I need to charge up my Kindle, throw my laptop into the sea, and get reading.

I would just like to say I'm impressed by the pen and ink drawing (I can't concentrate on drawing either :-/), and hope that it turns out as you would like it to.

Everyone has different forms of expression! Drawing is good, but all of mine look like a second grader did it.

Finished MAddAddam last night.

I am also on a Madeleine L'Engle kick. Re-reading her stuff reminds me of childhood, simpler times.

I am a speedy reader, always have been. I have forced myself to slow down in recent years. MaddAddam lasted me three days.

Mags-check out Atwood. I tried to read her more when I was younger and had a rough time. Now that I am older, I dig her.

I have read some Michael Lewis....The Blind Side.

I am reading Max Lucados new book You'll Get Through This. I could of read this in a day but haven't had a solid day that I have sat still enough to read it! I am an internet nut and would rather be on the computer than read a book. That will change when I start my new job since I won't get home until later in the night! That might be either be a Godsend or intervention! LOL

I'm not reading anything presently as well. A couple months I started reading Your Erroneous Zones by Dr. Wayne Dyer but haven't finished it as yet. I stopped and haven't started back as yet. I usually read on and off.

I like reading romance novels or inspirational books.

@Karen - I'd be interested in seeing the drawing when it's finished, so feel free to take a pic and send it to me. I've done pen drawings in the past, but never used an inkwell before; dipping the pen into it sounds quite fun.

Re your questions about the Kindle. It's rubbish for magazines, but fantastic for reading books, as has already been explained by Carl. If you really wanted to read magazines on an electronic device, you'd be better off with a tablet: iPad is the one that everyone knows, but Amazon do a tablet version of the Kindle, called the Kindle Fire. Personally, if I was gonna get a tablet I wouldn't get the Kindle Fire, although there are a lot worse tablets out there.

The Kindle connects to the Amazon store and you can buy books from there. They download to your Kindle in seconds. There are 'other' ways of obtaining books, which can be handy to know about if a book you want isn't available in the Amazon Kindle store.

By the way, although I don't have an iPad, I have gone on other people's iPads and am now something of an Apple 'expert' in my family, despite never having owned an Apple product in my life (too poor <_<). And there's no way I'd want to read an entire book on one. The Mini iPad would probably be a bit better, but then you lose the advantage of the bigger screen for internet browsing, playing The Tribez, etc.

@Carl - I have a 4th generation Kindle. No touchscreen bollocks (prefer pressing buttons to turn pages), but also no backlit screen either. What is the backlit function like? Is it glarey or is it easy on the eyes, even in dark rooms?

Not convinced I use my Kindle enough to justify an upgrade... :-/ But thinking about it all the same, 'cos I'm quite often having to shove the Kindle under a lamp just to be able to read it.

@Myself09 - I remember Madeleine L'Engle! Read a few books of hers as a teenager, but managed to avoid reading her most well-known book, A Wrinkle In Time.

Bingo! The roast is in the slow cooker with shrooms onions garlic beef bouillon, then smashed red potatoes and steamed cauliglower. I better avoid the taters.

Oh yeah Karen, we have great sales on thosae pok loins. So we cut some nice chops and cut a coupla small roasts.

Today Pat found sirloin roast for $2.39/lb and had it ground up. The stuff they sell for hamburger these days is gross...jacked full of water and God knows what else and for $3/lb or more.

Oh let's see, books, yeah lol
