Finally feel great on Lexapro

Man. What a ride. I'm an everyday guy, father of three great kids and a supportive wife. I'm a typical type A control freak, top performing sales person/manager and never had any physical symptoms of anxiety until about a year ago. I was doing all sorts of travel away from the family as I was managing sales in US and the stress got too much.

Went to Disney with the family a year ago and had what I found out were small panic attacks. Felt like you all do. Months later I decided to jump on Celexa. I'm sure it's an outstanding product but I started it to high at 20mg and only lasted 4 days. Freaked me out and from May through Aug I was freaking out as I didn't want to take any meds.

Finally I decided to visit my first psych and so glad I did. He put me on Lexapro and started me out very slow and low.

2.5-two weeks
5-two weeks
7.5-two weeks
And now finally 10 on for 2 weeks.

Now listen all you readers just like me, it's going to be ok. I'm a stressed out mess who can't stop reading and when I was in the middle of it all, I thought the feelings you have would NEVER go away. Guess what, like my grandmother always said, "and this too shall pass". It will guys. Hang in there. The going slow thing was key. Yeah, had some mild increased anxiety and felt the typical exhausted, spacey, not really here kind of stuff. But it slowly passed. Still have few butterfly's lingering but so much better.

Don't worry. This stuff passes and it's normal to feel ups and downs and you will feel better. I do and glad to write this.

I agree that therapy helps. I don't mind meds as I know its chemical with me. Thanks for insight. Best wishes.

Thanks Karen. Still feeling great and at 3 weeks at 10mg. Last time when on lower dose I started feeling it wear off. So optimistic this will stay.

So glad to feel myself again. Funny thing is I thought I would feel different but nope, just feel like I did before any physical symptoms of anxiety.

Def doing more for my family. Bought my wife flowers for the first time in a long time. Doing all kinds of stuff w my kids as well. Not as annoyed with stuff.

So yeah, feel pretty "normal". Still get a few shakes in hands from time to time but nothing that bad.

   Deep feelings of anxiety are very uncomfortable and can be incredibly stressful ... glad to here that the Lexapro has helped you so much - and in what seems like a short timeframe.

   I am in my 5th day of Lexapro right now, and it's difficult to isolate what side effects are being caused by what drugs. Actually, I think it's impossible for me since I also started a chemotherapy a week ago that's loaded with side effects.

   Anyway, my doctors recommended a 20mg dosage size. My sleep craziness lately I think is due to the chemo. It seems as though I do have atr least a little more energy during the day, but could that be possible after only 4 or 5-days?

   With your good experiences with Lexapro, what benefit did you find and how soon did you find it?

Thanks ro sharing Rosiebones. You are helping me get through my beginning regimen of lexapro at 10mg. This is my 3rd time going on. Sevens months ago I had to wean off in order to take a strong antibiotic for an bacterial infection. Like you, I am a father of 3, great wife, typical dude. I too believe this must be a chemical thing going on....no other way to explain it. Been down this road 3 times. Each time I was on the lexapro, I was balanced and could do anything without problems. Seems as though I can go about 3-4 months off of it and then the same symptoms start up again and then back to the doc. Anyway, sure glad to have your posts as a support as I am struggling with the side effects after 25 days of 10 mg....slight increase in anxiety and at times, depressive moods (which is not me). Questions. At how many weeks on the 10 mg did you begin to feel better? Thanks and keep posting please. Rod

Hello Rosiebones! Welcome to healing well! I'm new myself here too....thank you for sharing your positive experience with lexapro...it always helps to read successful stories...Im also on lexapro I only take 5mg and have been on it for 5 weeks now... This medication is wonderful! I would say just starting the medication is the hard part since it does increase anxiety a little and some side effects.I'm glad your feeling back to your normal self! Keep us updated!

irerod-did your dr tell you to stop lexapro so you could take strong antibiotics? i had a simular issue last year. i had to take 3 diferrent courses of antibiotics for a stubborn lung infection and keep taking zoloft. my dr, didnt notice a conflict . i ended up with saratonin syndrome and no one even noticed i had it!. i finally tru research on my own figured out what happened . even a trip to the er didnt catch it. just wondering if your dr was on the ball?

buspar is wonderfull. just strong enough to work with out being too sadating. non addicting!
