Federal Shutdown

This is causing so much pressure here in my home, and in my area of the US. There is nothing anyone can do. Even when the government workers go back, they may not receive back-pay, and the federal contractors certainly won't. BF's boss called to remind BF to submit time sheet for the 4 hours he worked the first day of the shutdown and for yesterday's holiday, and to see if he wanted to take sick/vacation days for some of the rest.

I wish I had some answers.

It would probably be a good idea for your husband to take some sick/vacation time. That would help you out until (hopefully) this is over. I am really sorry Myself...

I was born here in the DC metro and lived here much of my adult life. I remember my father and my mother being furloughed a few times, over decades. This is the first time it has actually touched me, as an adult. I have never worked for the feds, but can plainly see the results of this shutdown around me.

People are in the gym. Loud groups of 30 and 40 somethings at cheap food places. People walking around looking dazed.

Yes, the situation is definitely horrible. What's worst - these are people in government who are suppose to be working FOR the people, not holding our nation and us as a bidding chip to have their way like grade-school children. I have a sister-in-law who works within the Federal Prision, no pay, but is still having to keep up her strenuous schedule to keep her job. She is being told that she is on the 'IOU' system - well, she can't buy groceries or gas or pay bills with that. Watching the news - lets hope this deal goes through in the next few days.

So the veteran cemeteries and monuments are shut down but the congressional pool and spa are still open. When a congressman was asked about this 'slap in the face' to our military he replied. "Yes...the pool is still open but we have to bring our own towels." Serioulsy? Bring your own towels because the 'towel lady' as been furloughed? How can you live with such a tragic inconvenience?

Pathetic.

Well, last night they got it in gear. BF's boss called about half an hour ago recalling him. BF is sad, since he wanted to dye his shutdown mustache. Can you have a mid-life crisis at 55?

Two weeks, more or less, of lost work. He never uses his sick days so at least those will be used.

Heehee. We were watching the local 11 PM news and they said "Federal Workers should report tomorrow" He had to wait for the chain of recall to happen... since all email and electronic devices were shut off.

He's happy, but is having a midlife crisis, I am pretty sure. He doesn't like the grey in his mustache.
