Daily Check IN for All #58

Hey all

Rob-Alzheimer's runs rampant on both sides of my family. It is such a terrible illness-to steal a person's soul. And sometimes there are moments of lucidity where they realize they are a burden and get so sad. I hope she goes quickly, peacefully to a place where she can be a vibrant joyous girl again. And I hope the family can find some place of forgiveness and grace before she goes.

On an entirely different subject, our darling Katie was admitted to University of Southern Mississippi, which has an excellent nursing program. Her high grades make her eligible for lots of scholarships so I try to do 2 a day-AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!! She does the essays, but Mama does all the organization and grunt work. We are very proud and plan on a campus visit soon. She takes the ACT again and we hope score comes up a bit so she can apply for more $$$$$$$. I guess I better hurry up and get a life now that she's leaving-lol. School is only 2 hours away.

Anyway, hey to everyone and hope y'all are doing ok-hubby wants to play his RPG so gotta go

Congratulations on Katie!!! I bet you are a proud mama... I hope she gets into a school that she enjoys. Nursing, hard.... But a very gratifying job... Keep us posted on how things go!!!

You don't come off as cranky to me. I too make my dr's appts, take my meds. They have helped me. I get a little frustrated too. I have tried really hard to beat depression and I guess because I have done it to a point, I feel everybody else can. But in my heart I know it isn't that easy for everybody. I exercise and meditate. But maybe what works for me doesn't work for others, I don't know. But there are many members we can praise who do all the things that they need to do. That makes me feel good and makes up for the ones who don't I guess. Just keep on keeping on. You are actually doing good. We all get a little down or cranky sometimes. I guess that is what makes us appreciate the good days. lol...

Update ...................

And general info probably good to have for the future:

   Whenever it comes to hospice, it cannot be handled over the phone. My info was wrong. I did have to go in today to review paperwork ... and sign some paperwork. The lady was exceptionally nice, thorough and an oncology nurse on top of it. So ... we spoke much of the same language - and she knows my oncologist. It was comforting.

   A formal approval is needed from medicare and two doctors ... and it came by phone about an hour ago. To my surprise, hospice does not necessarily mean someone is soon going to need all of the last of lifes planning ... so hospice can go forward for days, weeks or even up to 6-months.

   Last night, I had visions of me shopping for a casket on my birthday this week ... and all of the other needed planning!

   I think that's not going to happen so quickly!!!

   Myself ......... do you really think you're crabby that often? My impression was only after the Ravens or the Redskins lost a game!!!

Ooooppss!!!

   Mags ......... go for those scholarships and any other kind of money that's out there for Katie. My Amber did that years ago on her own (didn't want Dad's help) ... and it made something very unlikely become something that happened!

   Karen .......... thanks for all your caring. The weather here is back to typcial November. A small downstate town got it bad ... we were lucky here! Hope your new computer works perfectly. I still think it's not a bad idea ... maybe to put out your old computer by the wood pile ... and ... maybe a hunter will find that and your big racoon as a tempting target.

Rob, what day is your birthday, mine is the 22nd. I will be 55.

Michele, I missed you guys so much. For the moment my computer is doing okay. I just put it to sleep when not using it so it doesn't get too hot. It has worked so far. But yea, a new one would be awesome...

JB... Thanks, I guess you got to play to win, but the odds are so bad, how can anybody win? But somebody has to... My husband buys me cashword tickets everyday. A couple, that is my favorite game, I like to do puzzles and that is what it reminds me of.

Magpie, I am so proud of your Katie!!! This is more than awesome!!! I remember getting grants for college. I did try for a scholarship, but didn't follow through. Chickened out, didn't have enough confidence. I would of had to go far away and I was scared. Oh well, Katie is a good student and she will make it. She is more serious about it than I was. I know you are so proud of her!!!

Bummer .........

   Just got back from the "doc" (again) ........ it ain't a cold! It's freakin pneumonia! S**T!!! Gotta go in for a chest xray tomorrow ... took this horrible breathing test today. Always sumpin'!!!

   Karen ......... I remember that day with JFK so well .... a depressing time. Yeah - I was actually young in dem days! I don't know which one had a worse impact on me personally ....... JFK or 911! I remember the tv coverage for them both.

Trust me, JB, I understand about the no money. I am lucky that I have a cranky, albeit well-meaning, security blanket in the form of BF. I have to refill my crohns med this week-five hundred to the pharmacist. My therapist told me to go to the ER with my UTI. I haven't since I still can't get up the nerve to take on another bill, still owing 1000 on my root canal. I have enough painkillers to get me through to January, and JUST ENOUGH muscle relaxant, if I cut them in half.

And, for the board's edification, my forays into the ACA have been upsetting. Financially fearful. But, as we all know, health care costs money, and you can pay at the front end or the back end. Paying at the backend is far less cost-effective.

Rob, their defense is sadly lessened by off-season losses, though they have been getting better as the season progressed. The offense is worrisome. The o-line ain't holding, and the WRs are less effective. Flacco keeps getting knocked down before he can get going. And then there was the party-bus incident with the stripper and the champagne bottle injury-Jacoby Jones. Google it.

Now I am really depressed.

Really am sick now. Was at middle school today-had the same kids as yesterday in a different class. Pleasant group, but boy you get tired of the same thing over and over. At the teacher's 'break', I had to go cover two algebra classes, and then back for the sixth grade's study hall. By the time I finished, I was hoarse and feverish. I took a nap, which I usually don't but really felt worn. Tomorrow, a high school out at the nether reaches of the county... I will need to be out the door by 6:20.

Check for scholarships Mags. I didn't have much debt from the BA due to my scholarships. It was the stupid grad degrees that took my future earnings.

Karen-keep on cooking! Tonight, baked chicken thighs with Italian seasoning, the leftover butternut squash, and a fennel-apple slaw.

Wow Carl - you sound extremely frustrated! Not used to this side of you! You go get 'em!

Myself- I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well. I agree with Karen- try cranberry juice and see if you get some relief.

Rob- how the heck do you have pneumonia? My goodness it happened fast! Take care!

JB- remember I'm with you! We can do this together.

I saw my counselor today and I have journaling homework. We are working on "how" to become the person I want to be. Hard to change my negative thoughts and self talk so fast. Working through moodgym to help with CBT. It's interesting. I think hubby has put leaving on the back burner. I understand his point of view about him living with my depression. But, I'm actively doing everything I can to get better. I wish I could turn it off because I'd never let it turn on again!

I am using needymeds, and have contacted the manufacturer. I have a discount card which knocks off about 50 bucks. Last month, I went to a religious coalition and they helped me get a few weeks worth. I also have another payment reduction program, but the manu. of my asacol is just greedy.

I am taking mega-strength cranberry pills and using boric acid suppositories... no relief.

Good morning all ............

   Another sunny day, normal temp ... and Gizzy had a good ride but got into his high-pitched nerve-racking barks! At least he saw the two big old Pyranees (first time in a couple of weeks) and one little white 6-pounder - toy poodle, bichon or maltese!!!

   I have had a bad cold for a little over a week - and while the head cold portion was much better lately, the chest just keep on filling up. So ... off to the doctor yesterday ... a breathing test ... and his dx of pneumonia. So now - off to the hospital today for a chest xray. I started the antibiotic last night .... shocked to find some relief to my breathing within hours. And the doc wants me to use my albuterol inhaler 4x a day until next week when the antibiotic should be finished.

   Mags ....... stay on top of the COPD. I did stop smoking 3-years ago - not one smoke since. And yes ... the COPD is a stepping stone for pneumonia ... although this is only the second time I've had it in 3-years - when I received a pneumonia shot (ain't kiddin about dat one)!!!

   Myself ...... thanks for the Ravens update. Chicago went for decades seemingly without good receivers ... sure makes a difference! And they went for decades without a good back-up QB ... again a difference maker. Just look at Green Bay! But - right now, the Bears are without 7-starters on defense ... just unreal! The offense is missing Cutler only .... a little decent luck there! Last comment ...... how did Flacco get that enormous contract?

   Carl ...... I know I just said I've had no smokes in 3-years .... but .... could ya use a ceegar buddy? Is a ceegar in the garage possible?

   UA ..... thanks for your thoughts. Isn't it nice working from home - even if for just a brief time? I had that pleaure the last 22-years of my working life ... along with NO bumper-to-bumper rush hour driving ..... how sweet!!!

   Michele ...... do you believe in poetic justice? Well ........ three weeks after my pneumonia shot in January of 2011 ... I got pneumonia for the first time in my life! It's funny now ..... twasn't then though! Hope yer feelin good!

   Karen ....... hope you had a good session yesterday - and no snow or ice! I think I'm going to cancel going to my support group meeting tonight. I must be filled with germs looking for new victims - just begining my second day of antibiotics!!!

   Hope there's some healing going on today!

You're welcome Myself! Hope it was good. Going through a tough time so I've been scarce and staying by myself. Haven't been outdoors much. Also, I only got back my laptop yesterday.

Rob: 22 years? Wow! Was that your dream job? I dislike that traffic too. I usually leave home in the dark and reach back in the dark, due to the traffic. I hope things goes well at the hospital today. Glad you got some breathing relief with the antibiotic. Take Care of yourself.
