Flacco is actually decent, keeps his cool, doesn't get emotional, has an incredible arm. That does no good if your o-line goes out for fast food when you try to manage the ball. Another good example is the Colts and their implosion on losing Manning.

Dude, no messing with Pneumonia.

UA-I hear you. Sometimes, it seems our supports are wobbly, at best. Things may seem to be going well, one thing happens, and it all falls to pieces.

Mags-don't get me started, either.

Karen-we missed you oh so much. As I have said before, your love and gentle management of our beat-up, down but not out group of folks is a beautiful thing. -kisses-

So, subbed for a remedial ninth grade class in a very rural high high school. Teachers deserve all the money they make and more. Go ahead--try and explain persuasion to kids who have trouble writing. I dare you.

One girl broke my heart. Several of the gents, wearing camouflage and not for the army-references, referred to "gay m-f-ers" as a topic to argue-that marriage between gays was disgusting and they WILL be shot. That kind of thing. A young fragile looking girl touched my arm, and wanted my help developing an argument about lesbians. It took some time for me to get out of her that she wanted to argue that lesbians should be allowed to marry. We sat down and worked for about ten minutes.

Another girl, unfortunately, broke my heart in another kind of way. She wanted to argue that pimps should treat their ladies well, and not use married women. She was just parroting what she had heard someone else say (hopefully not her mother), and didn't really understand why this wasn't a good argumentative topic.

One of our friends lives in that community and they send their daughters to private school. Now I know why.

Wow what challenging things to have to deal with. That would be so hard. Topics like that are so controversial. I don't think I could of handled that situation at all. You did well. And yes, teachers don't get paid what they are worth. You can't discipline the children in any way, how do you cope??? People let their kids run wild and expect the teachers to straighten them out. But I am sure that there are some real gratifying moments too. It is probably all worth it to see the children learn things. I applaud you!!!

I had a good day today. Making homemade chicken noodle soup. I didn't make the noodles though. I am almost done. It is a lot of work, I make a huge pot and freeze a lot of it. It is so convenient to take a package out of the freezer when we want it.

Food again. I think about it all the time, I cook a lot too though.

Mags, I hope things go well with your fair with candles :) If you go, please stay warm! I have done a few craft fairs indoors before, and that was cold, if you have room for blankets and anything else warm to take with you, I would :)

BF brought home some trout from Sam's Club the other day. Baking it with cajun spices and butter and almond flour, then some cauliflower sauteed in butter. I was going to add shallot, until I discovered that all my shallots sprouted. Boo.

Soup!!! I insisted on a turkey, just for the soup.

JB, come on down here. Hope that your new med adjustment helps. This time of year is hard.

Karen, I was humbled by the kids today. Seriously. I am used to saying, "Don't get the material? Here's the learning center, here are my office hours, if you don't like it, lump it." BUT-even at the worst I still had college students. Maybe not the best, but still college. It's so clear, to me at least, that some of these kids are in horrendous situations. Just as bad as some of my old students, escaping from poverty and abuse and gangs and street life. But at least my older students had engineered and begun their escape. These kids are not old enough to try.

Myself ........

   The way you describe Flacco .... sounds just like Cutler - same positives! Cutler is in his last contract year - so the local sports fanatics are going crazy about Cutlers worth .... especially since he has missed a few games with injury. Flaccos name comes up often here because of his contract amount and length.

   I understand the offensive line ....... EVERYONE in Chicago understands!

Cutler has had a garbage line all the years he's been here ... until this year!!! The Bears offensive line this year has only one returning starter - the center. Everyone else is new .... and they finally have at least a very decent line - if not better. Huge difference!

   about pneumonia ........ gottcha!!!

   Say young lady ........ it sounds like you were born to be a teacher! All the very best to you in finding a permanent position ... if that's what you want! I don't understand the inequities in payments to teachers ... and I mean mostly by area or school district.

   In my school district, the average seniority H.S. teacher 5-years ago or more was making about 70K per school year .... whereas 30-miles north of me, in a more rural area, the average was 1/2 that amount and with 10 to 15-years of service. Makes no sense!!!!

   Enjoy the mountains in your spare time ...... you lucky dog! Or should I say Border Collie?

Hey y'all

I need a favor...

Sally is our 14 yo chiweenie dog. She has been sick for awhile. We considered taking her to vet but she would be terrified. Pat can't shoot her to put her out of her misery. I cannot get enuf sedatives down her throat to let her drift away. So we have just been loving and coddling her, cooking soft foods and all.

Today I walked into the kitchen and she was lying on the floor in a bad seizure-first one. It freaked me out and saddened me so much. She recovered and we have her in the recliner all wrapped up, talking and reassuring her. Such a brave great dog, 14 years of companionship, she has made us laugh so much and loved us tio death.  please pray that the Lord will take her soon-no more pain for her. Her poor lil body can't take much more. She did not eat today and she has been eating well so her time is near.

Please sweet God, bring her home tonight. Amen.

Hello UA .......................

   Thanks for all of your kind thoughts. The medication I'm taking is really making a difference. Breathing is much more clear already - but there's still a deep nasty cough.

   It's funny you mentioned "dream job"! In effect, it turned out to be close to that ... but that wasn't the original intent or goal. I just got sick of losing jobs either because of recessions when in my 30's or greedy employers or company buyouts when I was in my 40's.

   So, at the age of about 45 ... I decided "I'm gonna do this myself"! And that was right when the divorce proceedings were going on. I lived in and worked out of an 800sf condo for the first 6-years and kept my car for nearly 10-years ... and saved money!

   No vacations, except one with my kids ... and a couple of week-ends away nearby - for over 22-years!

   I would do it again ... close to the same way. I had a one person professional service business - that heaquartered out of my condo - or later my townhome. I wore all the business hats ..... sometimes hard but it was a feeling of accomplishment - even though I never made much money.

   I guess it was CLOSE to my "dream job"! The follow-up portion of marketing was my weakness .... but I did have many repeat clients - with a couple of very cool jobs!

   Don't think you can beat a job where you "love to go in to work"!

Hey Mags ..............

   Hope this is of some comfort to you and your family.

   My dear and departed Bear - in April of 2012 - in the course of one week-end went from ...

Saturday ...... last time he ate

Sunday ........ laid down all day - not even drinking

   I stayed up with him Sunday night

   He had three seizures thru the night

   I was within 3 to 5 feet of him overnight

Monday am ....... last seizure at 5am .... gone by or before 6am

   Nothing approaches the intimacy of the loss of a family member at home. My prayers are with you and your buddy!!!

Keep your sweet one comfortable, that is all you can really do. Her time will come soon. I know how you feel, lost a lot of them in my lifetime. It really sucks to say the least, but we think about the many good years that we had with them. Hang in there sweetie, we are here for you...

Rob, I hope you are feeling better. Sounds like you had a good business with a lot of happiness. That is so cool!!! I had my flower shop for a year, but nothing went right all the way down to the wrong phone number in the yellow pages. I tried, and I loved it. I should be thankful for that. Have a good night friend, and Gizmo too...
