antidepressants and weight gain

  Hi

  I've suffered depression for the last 9 years and I've taken lots of different antidepressants without finding the good one for me because i feel sick and down most of the time..I didn't have weight gain with prozac and some more similar but I've gained around

40 lbs in the last 4 years taking paroxetine 20mg a day...and I'm sick..now i've come back to prozac(40mg) and the doctors have put me on trazadone too(100mg)

 have any of you put on weight so much with paroxetine (= Paxil) like me?

*I looked up the name paroxetine to see the brand name so others would recognize what med this is...the info I found said it was Paxil.... (((Hugs))) SC

Dear sickofeverything,

I put on about 30 pounds over the course of my first 18 months on Paxil.  That's the bad news.  The good news is (1) that it worked to control my depression and (2) that the weight gain did eventually level out.

Although I and my doctor did later try other medications to see whether they'd have less dramatic side effects, none of them worked so well as the Paxil, so I've made the choice to accept the extra weight and accompanying physical health issues in exchange for improved mental health - for now.  I should also point out that I don't exercise or watch what I eat; maybe someone more health conscious would have less of a weight issue with Paxil.

  I just wanted to say thank you very much for your replies! in my case paxil didn´t work so well and on top of that I gained lots of pounds...
