Lexapro? Good or Bad?

Went to see a new GP, who wants me to try Lexapro for depression.

I'd like to know if anyone here is on it, how and if it has affected their lives?
What kind of side effects did you have - good or bad?
And if bad side effects, did you have to wean off it?
And did you have any withdrawal ( and how bad was it)?

I've read so many horror stories about Lexapro, so I thought I'd ask you guys.

My concern is since being in remission UC wise, I don't want anything to displace that.

I don't think you will have to worry with Lexapro... It seems to work well for a lot of people. Side effects usually do go away in a couple of weeks, if not, then maybe try something else. The only way you are going to really know anything is to try it...

i wish you well with lexapro. i did get the dreaded brain zaps, but mine did not go away and under medical advisement i discontinued it. good luck with it.

Thanks for all your input.

Still on the fence about trying lexapro.
Too afraid to rock the boat with the UC remission.

So for now, going to stay put.

Keep us posted on how you are doing. I Hope that this works for you. I can see where you wouldn't want to rock the boat right now. But maybe in the future you can try it...

So I started the Lexapro a week ago this Saturday.
I haven't seen much of an improvement, although am experiencing some side effects:

Bruxism
Calf muscles are very very tight
Urinary tract infection

Apparently,from what I have just read, these are not uncommon?
I can learn to live with some of these, but I am not sure if decreased urine output together with blood in urine is worth it?

Any input would be much appreciated.

I am one of those people that always gets the "rare" side effects, the ones that only affect 1% of the population, ha!

The weight isn't great either...

Hello .....

   I'm another (generic) lexapro person. I have been on it for 5-months now - and 20mg doses daily. My side effects were either minimal ... or the other meds I've been on had far greater side effects than the Lexapro.

   It has worked pretty well for me in reducing the sometimes very high emotional state that is created by the continued use of hormone therapy and chemotherapy.

   It usually has had a calming effect on me ... giving me a greater emotional feeling of peace - so it has done what was epected.

   Any side effects you may have should be temporary ... but we all react differently to meds.

Yes, they have me on generic Lexapro too.

Did some research and found something rather interesting:
On Feb, 20, 2014: 34,039 people reported to have side effects when taking Lexapro. Among them, 854 people (2.51%) have UTI.

I told my GP, but she doesn't agree with the statistics, ugh.
