By kindness of Ruth Whalen, Medical Laboratory Technician, who wrote the articles on Caffeine Induced Anaphylaxis and Caffeine Allergy, the information provided here is with her written permission.
1. Cerebral allergy is an allergy to a substance which targets vulnerable brain tissue and alters brain function. Masked cerebral allergy can cause symptoms of mental illness. Symptoms range from minimal reactions to severe states, which may include irrational behavior, disruptions in attention, lack of focus and comprehension, mood changes, lack of organizational skills, abrupt shifting of activities, delusions, hallucinations, and paranoia.
2. An allergic reaction to caffeine manifests itself as hyperactivity, anxiety, or panic disorder. It can lead to the breakdown of the blood brain barrier. (The blood brain barrier prevents unwanted chemicals from entering the brain where they might be harmful.)
3. Other reactions may be memory impairment, deterioration of social and intellectual behavior.
4. Deteriorating intellect, the first stage of caffeine induced allergic toxicity, masquerades as inability to concentrate, lack of comprehension, lack of focus, hyperactivity, and disorganized thought processes which are the hallmark signs of caffeine allergy. An allergic reaction to caffeine results in poisoning of the prefrontal cortex. Damage to the underside of the prefrontal cortex, above the eye sockets, renders a person, generally, absent minded and interferes with the ability to monitor personal activities.
5. During partial withdrawal, the body metabolizes some caffeine, saturating cells. Clarity struggles to return. The traits mimic depression. As the noradrenaline level diminishes, symptoms of depression set in. Caffeine induced withdrawal depression can manifest as hyperactivity, lethargy, irritability, confusion, and lack of focus.
6. Another dose of the "poison" provides minor relief, but continues to jeopardize organs. A return to caffeine intake increases noradrenaline, heightening the fight or flight response. With continued caffeine exposure, toxins accumulate.
7. Histamine is reduced in persons diagnosed with schizophrenia, a late stage of ongoing caffeine anaphylaxis. (Caffeine diminishes
histamine levels.)
8. In a caffeine-allergic person, each dose of caffeine or theophylline (the tea counterpart) increases toxic accumulation. A buildup of caffeine, which may exceed tolerance level, saturates the ability of metabolism and rate of drug accumulation exceeds rate of elimination. Needless to say, the continued use of caffeine worsens the frontal cerebral damage, poisoning also the hypothalamous.
9. It is known that the longer a person is exposed to a drug (and caffeine is a psychoactive drug), the higher the chances for developing a tolerance. Once this happens, the allergic person can't properly metabolize caffeine, which is rapidly absorbed by all organs, and distributed into intracellular compartments, and extracellular water.
10. Brain levels increase proportionately with dosage. With those who
have an allergy to caffeine, each dose increases toxicity. Half-life increases; Subsequent doses, including minute amounts, act as a full dose ingested. Cells are poisoned, including neurons.
11. Caffeine allergy may be mistaken for bipolar disorder. Symptoms include: chattiness, repetitive thought and action (resembling obsessive compulsive disorder, restlessness, psychomotor agitation, alternating moods, anger, impulsiveness, aggression, omnipotence, delirium, buying sprees, lack of sexual inhibition, and loss of values.
12. It may also resemble schizophrenia.
13. It may masquerade as depression, anxiety, and panic attacks.
14. In proportion to toxicity, physical withdrawal make take up to 12 months or longer. Recovery symptoms include memory loss, confusion, tremors, agitated states, insomnia, or somnolence, and nightmares.
Following physical recovery, residual mental symptoms, primarily confusion and mood alterations may exist for several months.
15. Chronic toxicity may affect functional aspects of every organ.
Toxic persons usually present with a whitish or grayish coated tongue.
16. It's highly probable that millions of consumers developed an allergy to caffeine, especially since availability and production increased rapidly during mid-twentieth century. In which case, natural insights and physical and mental health have been sacrificed to chronic toxicity, resulting in organic brain problems, silently posing as ADD, ADHD, anxiety, BPD, depression, OCD, panic, and schizophrenia.
If you know that you have allergies, this information may be very important for you to continue to investigate. Barring all allergies, you may not have a sensitivity to caffeine.
I'm not a doctor and can relate to you only that which has been effective for me in relieving caffeine allergy symptoms. It seems to me that one would wish to remove caffeine in all forms from the diet immediately. For me, adding a high quality Vitamin C with bioflavonoids, taken about three times a day has been remarkably helpful in making removal of caffeine from the diet so much easier. And I try to keep well-hydrated, not using tap water, but purified or distilled drinking water. (Distilled water removes the unused minerals from the body.)
