Please try the counseling.
Somehow, I don't believe you think it can be a quick fix. And you're right! It's not fixed overnight ... but it is so well worth going. And you may even see some benefit with just the first few sessions.
Honesty ...... and trust - are the two things needed to start. The trust will take a little time, but the honesty needs to be there immediately.
I'll think you'll find great relief in counseling. My preferance is what is often called a "talk psychologist or therapist"!
