Just a few thoughts for you....I think at this point it doesn't even matter which is causing the other problem. I suppose at some point it would be good to know, but right now you need to get treatment for both problems. Really sounds like you do have depression. Do you see a psychiatrist? If not, you need to get one. I guess ask your primary care doc to recommend someone to you. And if you don't "mesh" well with them, try another one. You deserve to feel better. There are so many different meds, don't give up yet. A good doc will be smart enough to try ones that work on different neurotransmitters/chemicals in the brain to find what works for you. I have been taking antidepressants for about 20 years, since I was 16, and have been on lots of different ones. Sometimes it feels like just a game of chance, a hit or miss kind of thing. But I have a good doc and she's super smart about meds and how they work and interactions with other meds, etc.
Meds can definitely cause different side effects and stuff, so sometimes it's hard to tell what meds are causing what. Work closely with your doctors, ask lots of questions, and always be honest with them about what you are taking and how you are feeling, etc. Sometimes it helps to keep a journal or list of symptoms and when they appear and when you take meds; basically to give the doc as much info as you can to help them figure out what's happening.
Another thing to do is to go see a therapist. I do a combination of meds and therapy, both of which are very important. Finding a therapist you feel you connect with can be tough sometimes. But don't give up or stay with one that you don't feel comfortable with or isn't helping. It may take time, but you'll find the right one. Don't give up!! You deserve a better life!!
I also have GI problems (as well as a bunch of other health problems), so I have some idea of how you feel. It's tricky to manage physical illness along with mental illness. I figure that treating both is the best thing you can do, even though they surely are influencing each other. Finding good docs to work with you is key.
Also, if you haven't recently had a check-up or physical exam, go get one. The tiredness can be caused by the IBS stuff, the depression, or something else. Same with some of the other symptoms. You need to start there to make sure you don't have anything else going on, like low iron levels or vitamin deficiencies or something.
There is a lot of help out there, and a lot to be hopeful about. DO NOT give up!!! Things can and will get better. It may take some time to find the right therapist and meds and sort things out, but so worth it. So get on the phone and make some appointments. No reason to wait.
I need some sleep but saw your post and felt the need to respond. If you want to email me or whatever, go for it. I'll check back here too. You deserve to get help and feel better! I hope this helps you a bit. IBS and depression are tough enough by themselves, but together, they can really drag you down. Trust me, I understand how it feels. Please treat yourself with care, just as you would treat a gf, family member, or your best friend. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE UP!! There are lots of us out there in similar situations, and if we have to keep fighting, so do you!
Ok, I've rambled on enough. Good luck and if you want to talk more, shoot me an email or I'll check back here too. Guess I just said that, but I'm beyond tired. 3 a.m. Bed is calling me.
Things will get better!
