Zoloft

Hi Hawk,

I've had doctors ask me what I wanted to take before, I think sometimes they're trying to see if there was something that you liked in the past or sometimes people have their own ideas about what they might like to try. Usually I say I don't know what I want to take because I usually don't know what I want to take sometimes I know what I might be a little afraid to try but I try to stay open.

I've tried Zoloft before but I don't really remember much about it, I don't think it worked for me.

My doctor is starting me off on 12.5 mg which is half the smallest dosage. I am very sensitive to medication, so starting small is best.

Brendaboo, did your doc start you small and increase it as you became accustomed to it and needed a higher dosage? When you mean setbacks you mean the effectiveness wore off and you started to slide back into your problems that you had prior to the drug? Did it cause you any side effects?

I'm just worried because the Lexapro made things worse. I'd rather fight the depression without meds then. I take Ativan for anxiety, but I read that you should not take Ativan and Zoloft together.

I'm really nervous and scared as I have had adverse side effects that make the depression and anxiety worse on some meds.

Hawk, I also have a very tricky system when it comes to medication, and understand your anxiety about it. I believe I started at 25mg, then 50mg, then 75mg then 100 mg, but that was over the period of a year.

Yes the effectiveness wore off but not so drastically that I came to a halt , so it wasn't helping me as much as it once did but I was doing really well, but I too have to consider a lot was going on at the time, but I know with Zoloft the dosage can go pretty high, but I couldn't pass 100mg so my doctor wanted to try something else.

The only side effect I can remember int he beginning was an upset stomach and diarrhea, and it all subsided pretty quickly.

I took ativan years ago, but could barely function on it(it made me terribly aggravated and moody), but I do take xanax as needed for anxiety, with zoloft I was down to about .50 mg a day of xanax, now I up to sometimes 2 mg a day.

I am on Lexapro, which I have tolerated well, but I haven't had the awesome results as I did with Zoloft. I think starting you on a small dose is the best thing to do(for people like us), I think once you have had an adverse reaction to a medication you fear them all(I had a really bad adverse reaction to Paxil, I had to go to the hospital it was so bad and had to stop the medication immediately)

So I totally understand what you are going through, I am the same exact way, I'm supposed to be upping my Lexapro to 30 mg and just got a call from the pharmacy that my insurance company approved it, so now I am dreading have to increase it.

I hope all goes well with you, just remember sometimes you do get a little more anxious at first starting a new medication, my doctor always warns me of this, if something doesn't seem right after taking it give them a call, but you know your body and how you feel when it is not the right medication.

Day 2 of the Zoloft

I take it during the day, vs at night, when I take the other meds that I am on (Seroquil and Remeron). I feel anxious, but not sure if it is the drug or just the fear of taking the drug. I also worry about the diarrhea side effect.

I will continue to take it, but watch myself closely.

any other forum visitors please give feedback if you take or have taken Zoloft.

I'm very anxious tonight. Not sure it's the Zoloft or just an anxiety issue. I researched Ativan, but it says I can't take the two together. So I am just going to have to ride it out.

I have stomach problems normally. So just nervous.

Did your psychiatrist say you couldn't take Ativan & Zoloft or are you going by internet findings? How about call a pharmacist right now & ask them. Your doctor knows he prescribed you Ativan and now Zoloft and it would be malpractice to prescribe you 2 meds that woukd horribly interact............

Have you found a therapist yet? Not just group therapy but a one on one therapist?

I didn't do well on Zoloft but at least 3 of my friends take it and love it.

You can call 1-800-Walgreens and find a 24 hr pharmacy near you & ask a pharmacist. I've done that plenty of times.

That's awesome you've found 4 grps to attend. What are they like? Are they in churches, centers, libraries?

I can't find one grp to attend where I live. The only 2 I know abt are 40 mins on the other side of the city and are for severely mentally ill. I was very uncomfortable. I wish there was just a "normal" support group for depression/anxiety.

I live in Ft Wayne, Indiana. If you have any luck finding a support group on the internet for Ft Wayne, I'll send you $10 LOL. Seriously, for it being a larger city, we have several universities, a law school and pharmacy school, you'd THINK there would be more support groups. There isn't even anything on meetup.com except for an "21 & over out for fun" group. Ugh! I'm also looking to make friends and checked meet up.com for that and nothing.

Thanks Hawk! I knew abt this group but my therapist told me it's for severely mentally ill :/ The other group I did try was an intrsive outpatient group at a behavioral health hospital but it costed and again, I felt very uncomfortable bc of the intense stories I was hearing.

Thank you for googling for me though. I may just call that NAMI # tomorrow and talk to someone myself and get a feel for who attends..

How are you doing today?

How many mg of Ativan are you taking, when you say 2 Ativan, is that 1mg each or .5 mg each?

I've been taking Ativan instead of ambien the last two nights. I took 1.5mg on Monday, and 1 mg yesterday and slept pretty well, but I'm groggy throughout the day. I don't take it at all during the day.

I tried going to sleep without anything, but that didn't work.

My doctor said I could take up to 3mg at night to make me sleep, but that sounds like way too much if 1 mg can do it.

I really want the Ativan to be temporary until I can sleep off the Lexapro.

In the past I took only Lexapro and everything was fine.
