My female cat hates me

Okay here is my thing.

I have always had male cats, the thought never really hit me that I might want a female. Well a year or two ago my dad caved and let me get a cat but he wanted a female this time, I was happy as I have always been a cat person. Then the thought accured to me that I never had a female and didnt know what to think or how to feel. I went to the local pound and we picked out the cutest little kitten that I have seen in some time and it was a female like dad wanted. She was young enough that she couldnt be fixed for 3 months. So she came home. I love her. She is my Little Girl(also her name). She doesnt return the feeling tho. She only comes to me for food. She doesnt want me to pet her or even touch her. She only "like" me when she wants food or out. I am very hurt by this because all of my other cats would sleep with me and want me to hold them and love them. She wants nothing to do with me. I want a male cat but I know that dad will say no as we have 2 dogs and Little Girl, but she hates me. Bitting and no effection at all. Why? I love my girl.

It could be a health issue. When you pet her do you notice the muscles on her back "rippling"? Some cats have a sensory problem where being pet in certain areas can actually be painful.

Ive got 2 of each gender. They are all very different in how they interact. Is she very playful? You could try having a more intense play session (maybe a laser pointer) about 30 minutes before bedtime. They actually bond a lot through play and need to be drained of energy enough to relax.

Make sure your room is cat friendly. Mojo loves to be up off the floor. For him to be comfortable in a room he needs to be able to be off the floor and able to see everything. I've got these shelves on the wall uiu n my room for him to lay on. Bernie is a floor cat. He doesnt jump well because of his tail. He likes clear area on the floor. Hunter is a hider so she likes hsving spots where she can see us but we can't see her. its all about learning your cats specific likes and dislikes. Have you got a cat tree? Maybe a way for her yo lie in a window and sun. My cats love cat grass, too. Boxes are great, too. Most cats love to play or sleep in a box.

Im sure you can build a better relationship with her. Try really observing her for a few days. Keep treats on hand so that she associates you with good things. She just needs to be taught hpw to interact with you.

Animals are like people. All different personalities. I have a cat that is 3rd generation. Her grandma just showed up 1 day. Had kittens, then left when they were 8 wks. old. She would purr & rub up against things but you could never touch her. We kept 1 female kitten of hers. Named her hiss & vinegar. She hissed from day 1. Never stopped, & never let us touch her. Had her for about 6 yrs. before she up & left. Kept 1 of her kittens. Doesn't hiss, but you can not touch her. I have had her about 8 yrs. It is in her blood. Just like depression is in mine! And I have known a few in my day that would attack humans (even tho somebody's pet). And just for any body who might not know? Be careful w/ only male cats. Even neutered, they can & will still spray :( .

take it slow what age is it i may have missed that

spend time around where she is without touching

and yes like tv look her in the eyes get her atten then blink a few keep trying until she returns it

gradually get closer each day or week

get a laser and other toys start playing with her

its slow association we used it with wild cats at the shelter and vet i worked at

we never had returns or complaints

but the key is patience on there time when they want

you will succeed

also never scream yell or hit her there not dogs and just get mad and associate you with that

pet stores have motion activated air cans counters wherever dad says no or is complaining

get a squirt gun catch them but they can see you if they dont see you there like hmm claw whatever i get soaked and they quit my cat 3 times or so

please if you haven't already do not declaw its inhumane and lazy owners

they cut a full knuckle off and allot of times they have complications pain litter hurts etc

there's a web page i know the ceo good she was sending me a lifetime supply till i took the leap and trimmed her nails my self

mix the meals wet and dry my cat free roams on dry skinny bugger dosent abuse it get tarter control treats they also have hairball and skin and coat and there not bs gimmicks week or so on skin and coat treats he coat looked better more of a shine hairball she almost never unless pigs out on food

and cats are indoors only unless you want behavior and health issues

these and more i can almost promise she will come to you and be the cat your hoping for

like said above cats do what they want but dont listen when they say they cant be trained

a friend i used to know trained a fluffball to fetch and pat your shoulder it would jump no claws on your shoulder(although some of a problem jumping on visitors without being asked lol)

That is all we can do Jessica... As was posted before, don't take it personal. I really doubt that she dislikes you. Cats are just too independent for me. I have had a lot that don't like being held or cuddled. That is why I like dogs. I don't dislike cats, but I don't want one either.

To be honest, I think she will come around. She is just unique in her own way. Please don't feel she doesn't like you. I think it is just her personality.

sorry like said cats are who they are

and not to be mean or taken wrong believe me or not its your choice

i gave you instructions that we used to socialize cats at the shelter

there's no for sure or it will happen its up to them because as said some are lovey some lap cats etc but most if you follow that i have found no matter the personality they do come to get petted or brushed even if its a short visit

even with dogs she dont have to follow but thats each there own just wanted you to know dangers and in out tend not always but tend not to live as long cat fights worms to much to list

and take it how you want and do what you want but please people stop dogs and cats from the table

most dont know animals get same health issues as us they can be diabetic the long list and some even have mental disorders

its really fascinating to learn and know i still study and read to this day

those are just suggestions for you the forum and i didnt mean to come off wrong or mean

i just get a little hyper when it comes to animals and trying to educate so our friend can stay longer and get closer to us as they age
