Jessica, don't take your cat's lack of affection personally! We've also had cats in our family for years, and all the cats have been affectionate, male and female (all fixed) except the one our daughter now has. She also has had this cat from the time she was a kitten and she (the kitten
) has always been treated affectionately and well but she is not a snuggler with anyone. In fact, she will sometimes hiss if our daughter is petting her and the cat feels she's had enough. No one can explain why the cat behaves like this. She doesn't bite or attack but just doesn't like to be picked up and cuddled like all the other cats we've had in our family.
My suggestion is not to push any attention on her. You should feed her and take care of her just as you would any cat but leave her alone otherwise. Over time she may come and seek your attention. Cats like to establish relationships on 'their' terms. Good luck.
