Has anyone tried the generic brand of Lexapro?????

I only have about a few pills left of the lexapro and I just started lexapro again 4 days ago my Dr gave me a prescription for lexapro and mentioned that there's a generic brand as well since I have no insurance.And I've read post where people have had bad experiences with it.

Thank you for the positive reply...I guess it's bad to do research because of all the scary stories... my Dr used to supply me with the sample boxes for lexapro when I used it a couple years back and now he doesn't have any,how many times have u been on lex?

Well I hope so as well....how did you feel your first week that you were on it?

I was on the generic lexapro (20mg) from last October to about July. No problems ... and it did greatly reduce my emotional reactions. Will probably go back on it soon.

 

Gizzy'n me thank you very much for your response...that helps...I didn't start on generic I started on brand name but soon I'll run out and I'm afraid to switch to generic...I called my doc yesterday and explained I have four more boxes of brand name lexapro that expired 06/2014 and he says they r still ok to use for up to a year....this whole week of starting lexapro has been difficult.. increased anxiety nauea I still feel my blues...but I started to take 0.5 of klonopin once a day or morning and night I noticed that helps me out a lot and I only want to take it for this first week because I heard klonopin is addictive

thanks Karen....yes I know bemzos are addictive and I've never had to use them before but this week in starting off the lexapro my anxiety has gone up a little and I've been so nauseas and all emotional still and I had to give in to the klonopin and it really relaxes me and takes away all that so I guess I can keep using that until lex kicks in or I really don't know what to do.benzos scare me!

yes of course I try not to use them unless I feel I really need to... the first week is always the hardest with starting lexapro for me...so I think I'll just use it for this first week...I have been only using them once a day and its a super low dose of 0.5...do u think I would have to wean myself off that for one week of use?

yes my doc said use it as needed so I won't feel the side effects of starting off lexapro...when I don't use the klonopin my anxiety is running through my body and my emotions are high and with the klonopin low dose I take it really does help and makes me feel like me again...

xanax is another benzo right? how long have you been on that?

oh I see that is a very long time...but I'm glad its helped you out throughout the years...is pristiq an antidepressant?

yes I have only been taking them as needed so once a day this week and I haven't today.... it really does help but I don't want to go through any withdrawals with that...I called my doc to ask if just a week of using them if I have to taper off and nurse said she would get back to me..

and I'm also concerned because one my Dr said that its ok to use the expired lexapro I have date of 06/2014 and a pharmacist said no to dispose of them...I really don't want to switch to generic when I run out of brand name....I'm hoping it does affect me the same...I don't have insurance and brand name is too expensive.

Thanks Karen....I'm starting to wonder if I really need to be on lexapro now...I woke up feeling less anxious today and not so blue and its only been day 6...

Again let me give you some background... I was taking an antibiotic for an infection I got and had to take it 3x a day for 14 days and to top it off I was starting my menstrual period.I notice when I started taking this antibiotic I started getting a lot of anxiety and then shortly after the blues... I called the pharmacist and they said those are some side effects... but I had to stick it out for my infection and when I went to see my Dr on wed he told me to stop the antibiotic since its already been 11 days and was sending me to a lab to make sure infection was gone ...plus once again I was starting my menstrual period and my hormones were all out of control....

Today I feel fine just a little tired and I'm assuming because of the lexapro... I don't know if I'm only feeling fine because of the klonopin still being in my system.I last took a low dose of 0.5 yesterday morning.And since then I have not taken anything...so I don't know what to think or do at this point.

Yes exactly! I guess I'll see how I wake up tomorrow...that's usually when I felt the anxiety and blues the most...if I wake up good and feel fine again then I'm thinking of stopping the lexapro... but I'm wondering if I would need to taper off since I've only been on it for 6 days....

Sorry for the confusion.No at first i was taking the antibiotic for my infection and shortly after starting it I started to get anxiety then the blues...i had brought up this concern about what i was feeling to the nurses at my dr office and she said those were some possible side effects but I also had to stick it out to make the infection go away since there was really no alternative.

...then shortly after i also started my menstrual cycle...i still kept waking up very anxious and sad and so i decided to start the lexapro which now i have been on lexapro for 6 days now.I went to see my Dr on wed and he said stop the antibiotic 11 days should be enough of it and sent me for a lab test to make sure infection was gone.but he said still keep taking lexapro if your feeling anxious and sad.

..so with everything happening at the same time I don't know if it was the antibiotic causing this plus my period or maybe if I was just having a relapse from all my stress....

and now being off the antibiotic for 2 days and off my period I have been waking up better....not sad anymore just very little anxious but idk if that's because the lexapro is in my system and I have not taken the klonopin since 2 days ago...yesterday was a great day I was normal up and down doing things... so that's why I was saying if I really need to be taking lexapro now...I think it would be to soon for the lexapro to make me feel better...I don't know what to do at this point...

Thanks Karen....I've decided to stay on it until I see my doc this upcoming wed and then we can take it from there....I don't want to come off without letting him know first and I would like his advice...he has an emergency line but I feel this can wait till wed...I'm also just afraid that if he says to stay on it that I'm going to eventually have to switch to generic...I only have a few brand new lexapro pills left that will last till Thursday... and some pharmacist have said the other lexapros I have that expired 06/2014 are still ok to use and some pharmacist have said no...so I rather be safe than sorry.well all I can do now is just wait to see my doc...
