Hi everyone
Before you read this please understand this is how I feel and I completely understand that we all need to heal in our own way and by no means do I judge you for the way you recover from your illness. Recovering from metal health problems is no easy feat and I would support anyone through it if they asked me.
I need to share my story about
coming off Cymbalta. I now have stopped Cymbalta after weaning for 14 months at a very slow rate. I have suffered at the hands of addiction for a fairly long time but in the last few years have managed to give up all toxic substances including alcohol and smoking. I actually thought that after I had freed myself from these addictions my body and mind would start to heal and I would feel much better.
WRONG anti depressants are the reason for my fatigue along with the debilating feelings of being very irritable and a number of other side effects that go along with them.
Anti depressants have been in my life for at least 12 years because I always trusted the professionals that were helping me and moving me from one drug to another .
It wasn't until I became obsessed with reading and learning about
my mental health and looking at natural alternatives that I realised pharmaceutical drugs were hurting me the most.
I am off Cymbalta now for four days and the side effects are so painful that I am almost bed ridden. But I will give up at nothing to live a healthy life now and am not going back.
Please if you have experienced this tell me how you have healed from it through natural alternatives.
I really appreciate anyones help.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing.
I am a little confused, were your addiction issues present while on cymbalta? Please just answer yes or no. As we can not discuss illegal drug use on this forum.
I know some people have withdraw from cymbalta, usually it is not this debilitating, tho everyone is different.
If the addiction was running together with the cymbalta, I have to consider that this is a factor in the seriousness of your withdraw.
Have you discussed this symptoms with your doctor? This may be important for you to do.
Peace and strength

cymbalta can be a difficult wean, but i was off it in a few months. as trina has said was this due to addiction-being the prolonged withdrawal? i feel that it might be that your body is adjusting to not having it. i send healing thoughts your way.

If you have been off Cymbalta for four days, it is probably the drug going out of your system. Hang in there, and if it gets too bad, call your doctor.
Best wishes with this...

Yes BnotAfraid but it has been 3 years now since that was present.
But I am happy to say that now it is almost a week and my brain zaps have gotten much less and all the other symptoms have dropped in intensity as well! I can feel patience and clarity coming back.
Sorry for the confusion of my writing I could barely concentrate when i was writing that.
Thank you for your support I really was worried that I may feel this way for ever!

How were you weaning for 14 months? Were you counting the beads in the capsules? Did you do the wean yourself or from a doctor?
Cymbalta is one of the harder ones to go off of (Effexor, Paxil & Pristiq to a point), take longer to wean bc of discontinuation effects than most others.
What dose did you end with?
I was on Cymbalta for 6 years. I had discontinuation too but mine presented as nervous symptoms. (I actually loved the med but it pooped out on me). They put me on Pristiq so that may have eased discontinuation symptoms. I'm currently going off of Pristiq. The first week I went from 100mg to 50mg & I got eye dizziness and felt like I had flu/hit by a truck. So they had me go up to 75mg then 50 & now I'm on 25mg. The side effects went away with a slower wean.
What I can tell you from my own research & straight from my psychiatrists mouth is that, while discontinuation symptoms can be very bothersome, they aren't harmful & they will pass.
Generally speaking, a doctor does the weaning and does it slow & regimented so you experience few & minor discontinuation symptoms.
Do us a favor & keep us updated on your journey. You will be greatly helping others with your experience.
Wishing you all the best-
Lisa
